Pine Grove Forest

Image
August 3, 2026. Small butterfly observed on our hike today in Pine Grove Forest. Lots of water on the ground, but at least it wasn't raining. https://flic.kr/p/2stwfMv August 3, 2026 at 09:58AM

Dragonfly

Image
July 26, 2026. We went for a hike in Larose Forest west today; I haven't been there in the summer for quite a while. Listened to the ball game, though that was just disappointing. https://flic.kr/p/2srvJ22 July 26, 2026 at 09:18AM

Looking Down

Image
May 21, 2026. Back up the mountain. We're along the front side, looking down through some brush at Lac Tremblant and the resort village Really feeling a lack of energy today, so we didn't hike very far. It was cold, but beautiful. Drove home in the afternoon and - yep - it was another nap for me. https://flic.kr/p/2sezsjF May 21, 2026 at 07:56AM

Tremblant

Image
May 20, 2026. The view from the top of Mont Tremblant. We woke up early and drove to the mountain to pick up our summer gondola passes and have a short visit. Now that I'm retired we don't have all the time constraints, so we can do more frequent shorter trips up and back, spending more time for less money. https://flic.kr/p/2sexNqG May 20, 2026 at 11:42AM

The Road Home

Image
May 19, 2026. Intersection at the Warwick Forest about 15 km from Casselman. Cycled back home in the morning, then went into the city for a doctor's appointment (follow-up on weight-loss program). Got back home and took a well-deserved nap. https://flic.kr/p/2sewETc May 19, 2026 at 06:31AM

Stone Silo

Image
May 18, 2026. Farm just a bit south and east of Maxville on the road to Warina. It was another beautiful day for cycling - started cold but got quite warm in the afternoon. 50 km day with a full load, a lot slower than I would like (need to address stamina and energy issues). https://flic.kr/p/2sextZp May 18, 2026 at 01:17PM

Trillium

Image
May 17, 2026. Second day of my bikepacking trip, on a beautiful clear Sunday. Cycled from Whispering Pines through Alfred and then up to the Ottawa River and back, a mixture of farmlands and forests. This trillium was spotted along the bank of the Nation River across from Plantagenet. https://flic.kr/p/2sevr4L May 17, 2026 at 07:01AM

Farm Boy

Image
October 29, 2016. We weren't able to find any pumpkins in town so we decided to go to a Farm Boy in Orleans just to check it out (and look for pumpkins). It was interesting - more than half the store dedicated to fresh food, the rest stocked around the idea of fresh food. I liked it. We found our pumpkin, I got some fresh salmon, and we ate Chicago mix popcorn on the way home. Accomplishments: - installed and tried out Civilization VI. Different game feel; it seems to take me back a bit to some of the earlier editions, with less focus on making each unit a work of art. I like it better that way. But the audio didn't play cleanly. After the Harvest

Image
October 28, 2016. I took a side trip on a local road on the way home to take some photos of harvested fields. There was snow on the ground in the city, but nothing out here. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2ePIRFT

Snow

Image
October 27, 2016. I feel like a genius: I got my tires changed yesterday, and it snowed today. It looks cold and dark out there on the road in front of our house. Also good was getting an important document submitted. That plus I was tired today after being up late last night doing a class with George Siemens, and a bit rushed this morning to get in for a meeting. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2eAOCtm

Treed

Image
October 26, 2016. Working on my environmental scan today and have a seminar this eveening. Also, with a forecast of snow in the office, I changed to snow tires today.. That's where I spotted this guy, parked in a tree outside the McDonalds near the Canadian Tire. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2dXWep8

Scaffods

Image
October 25, 2016. It occurs to me that most of us don't ever get to see the scaffold-level view of a scaffold. But the window looking over this window replacement project offer a nice view. Another productive day today polishing up some project descriptions and adding to my environmental scan document. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2evRJCP

October

Image
October 24, 2016. Heading out of the office after a pretty productive day, I had about 10 seconds of this light in which to snap the photo. I got two shots and have been agonizing over which one to show. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2ezEwLc

The Tracks

Image
October 23, 2016. I took some really nice photos of pylons and trees in the sun while we were in the city to pick up prescriptions, but there was no card in the camera. So we get this evening picture of the tracks and the fall colours just outside the house. I spent the rest of the day playing No Man's Sky. I just about have the game conquered - I have a full exosuit, full mining tool, and 40 million units that will buy me the biggest ship in the fleet. Of yeah - and pictures of walker wreckage behind me. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2faf3aA

Ears Laid Back

Image
October 22, 2016. Rain again, and work to do, errands to run, and Alex is not impressed by me trying some close-up faded-background photographt in low light. The little Sony point and shoot is great, but it wasn't made for this. Accomplishments: - c.v. submitted for project proposal - informal shelves installed in my home office From Flickr http://ift.tt/2eWJgKL

Crabapples in the Rain

Image
October 21, 2016. I was standing maybe two steps outside the front door of our office building when I took this. Another rainy day, obviously. Got quite a bit done. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2eCgxqX

Rainy Day

Image
October 20, 2016. It was a dull and dreary day but my building reflecting the light caught my eye on the way home. Good day, productive. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2dtChTP

Tippler's Bane

Image
October 19, 2016. After the recent rain we attracted this nice cluster of mushrooms which I think are Coprinopsis atramentaria. They are generally safe to eat, but poisonous when eaten with alcohol, hence the name, tippler's bane. Not that I would ever eat wild mushrooms, even if they are on my front lawn, because who knows how wrong I might be! From Flickr http://ift.tt/2e7NEoj

Traffic

Image
October 18, 2016. I managed to avoid the traffic jam on the 417 by taking the Russell Road, but even this slowed to a stop in a couple spots, including this one by a cornfield. Another good day today, nothing finished (so no accomplishments to report) but I got a lot done. From Flickr http://ift.tt/2eP2Jfp

Morning Light

Image
October 17, 2016. I was a bit absent-minded this morning and parked in the wrong parking lot, but my bonus was the sight of these trees illuminated in the morning light. Very productive day today; I felt full of energy. Accomplishments: - reviewed second draft of NRC vehicle policy - submitted proposal for a conference - completed a bunch of small tasks related to travel From Flickr http://ift.tt/2dK5B9m
