Easter Bunnies

Image
February 26, 2020. It's way too early for easter bunnies, but there they were in the Metro (I resisted; I was only there for milk). I was supposed to travel to Toronto today, but my train was cancelled, then a winter storm hit, so I stayed home and worked on the ethics paper all day. https://flic.kr/p/2iy5U5s

Feather

Image
February 25, 2020. I spotted this feather in the snow on my way to my car in the parking lot. It was interesting the way it actually melted into the snow. Meeting in the morning, newsletter and ethics paper in the afternoon. Also did part of a proposal for a firefighting training project. https://flic.kr/p/2iy75xf

Holstein Cat

Image
February 24, 2020. This is one of the neighbours' cats. We call it 'Holstein Cat', for obvious reasons. It has a regular route through our back yard, right under the bird feeder (tbh the route was there before we installed the feeder). Had a productive Monday morning, getting paperwork off my desk. https://flic.kr/p/2iy3gGo

Chickadee

Image
February 23, 2020. This is another one of our bird friends, a tiny chickadee making the most of the feeder. Watched the ball game today, worked on sorting photos, and write a quick 1-page opinion piece. https://flic.kr/p/2iwVhHV

Baseball's Back

Image
February 22, 2020. It's the first game of spring training. Yay! It's a bit weird this year, because the televised games are on SportsNet, not MLB.tv. Still haven't figured out what to do for audio, which is how I follow most of the games (can't watch TV while out biking). https://flic.kr/p/2iwtsZz

Colour!

Image
February 21, 2020. Came into the office this morning and saw that the paiters had been at work overnight adding colour! to our hallway. I'm so happy they didn't choose grey. Anyhow, I now live behind a yellow door frame. Did zero productive work today, but got two large paperwork type items off my desk, so it was a good day. https://flic.kr/p/2iwppBM

Garlic

Image
February 20, 2020. Today was shopping day, first at Costco, then at Metro, where I photographed these giant cloves of garlic. No, I did not buy any. Good progress on ethics today as I dug into some historical documents on biomedical ethics. Good stuff. https://flic.kr/p/2iw454G

Kitties in a Bucket

Image
February 19, 2020. OK, not really a bucket. But they're all doing better after a (scheduled) visit to the vet for a check-up and (as it turns out) more antibiotic, anti-worm (precautionary), eye medicine (for Charlemagne, who had an eye ulcer), and an ear cleaning (for yeast). Ah, rescues. https://flic.kr/p/2ivKsB4

Fish

Image
February 20, 2020. It was snowy and sleety outside, not a good day to drive on the highway, so I worked out of the home office and made quite a bit of progress reviewing and summarizing codes of ethics. This fish is a pad I put under my computer to make sure it gets good air circulation for the fan when I'm playing GPU-intensive video games. https://flic.kr/p/2ivFHPx

Winter Woods

Image
February 17, 2020. I took a day off work today (and ended up working on my newsletter and ethics book). I took a quick run to the store, stopping to take a photo of some local woods (and to take a break from cat photos). https://flic.kr/p/2iuwHzi

Emma

Image
February 16, 2020. This is Emma, who like to climb the sides of the kennel. She's the smallest of the three, but far from being the runt, she is the most energetic of the bunch. Julia is doing better today and all three kittens had strong appetites. https://flic.kr/p/2iuc23P

Andrea Holding Julia At the Vet

Image
Febrary 16, 2020. Our quiet Saturday was interrupted when Julia began showing signs of distress. We drove into the emergency vet in the city, and while there, got her eating and drinking some. She also got five hours of hugging. She tested negative for dread diseases, but it looks like she has a respiratory infection, so we got some antibiotics. She's back home again and doing a bit better. https://flic.kr/p/2itXwyv

Julia and Charlemagne

Image
February 14, 2020. No surprise: it's kittens. This is Julia in the forefront (the quietest and calmest of them) and Charlemagne in back. Today was a bad-internet day at the office, which slowed me down, but I got a couple of sections done on the ethics book. And not much else. https://flic.kr/p/2itnrFH

The Kitties Have Landed

Image
February 13, 2020. Please meet our clowder of kitties, born exactly two months ago, and new to our home today. This is Julia (left), Charlemagne (middle) and Emma (right). Julia and Charlemagne are polydactyl. https://flic.kr/p/2isWgJj

Lunch Time

Image
February 12, 2020. There has been a lot of activity around the bird feeder recently; this is pretty typical. Today I worked on the ethics paper and caught up on some reading. https://flic.kr/p/2isCkE5

Blue Jay

Image
February 11, 2020. It's just coincidence that I was able to capture this beautiful photo just as the Blue Jays spring training camp is starting, but there it is. I spent the entire day today writing a post on educational research. https://flic.kr/p/2isuA5H

Waiting for the Train

Image
January 10, 2020. These are the tracks and crossing just in front of my house. It has been quiet recently as the blockades have shut down train traffic. I am more or less in sympathy with the blockade, not so much out of solidarity with indigenous people (though I am) but because I just think expanding oil is a bad idea. Spent the morning today doing a survey and the afternoon adding to the ethics paper. https://flic.kr/p/2isuxFK

The Kitty Kennel

Image
February 9, 2020. It's pretty quiet in the house with only one cat, but we're planning ahead as we contemplate finding some rescue kittens that need a forever home. Quiet day inside again; I wrote an article, I explored Svelte, and I wrote some posts that were in the hopper waiting to be written. Very slow progress today, but I was in utterly no hurry and enjoyed it all. P.S. the kennel is to keep them safe while they're very young. https://flic.kr/p/2irJGWD

My Friend the Sparrow

Image
February 8, 2020. We decided to stay in today because the weather was pretty ugly. The sparrow in our back yard didn't have a choice. But I had a nice day just puttering with computer projects, mostly cleaning up my old photo files. https://flic.kr/p/2irNrtv

Snowfall

Image
February 7, 2020. The highways were a mess today because of the hevy snowfall, so I worked from the home office, pushing forward again on the ethics paper. https://flic.kr/p/2irzPuf

Birdhouse Magic

Image
February 6, 2020. With more snowfall, the bird feeder has become increasingly popular in the neighbourhood. For me, it was back to the ethics paper today, including migrating completed bits to Pressbooks (yes, I've conceded that it's a book). https://flic.kr/p/2iryuvK

Marmalade

Image
February 5, 2020. I got to taste Andrea's marmalade today, which she put in jars yesterday. The first note you taste is maple, but then the Seville orange flavour comes to the fore. Finished revisions to my OER paper, did a survey, and caught up on some paperwork. https://flic.kr/p/2ipAKxd

Before

Image
February 4, 2020. They've taken down all the posters and other wall art (such as it was) at our office in preparation for painting. This is what it looks like before that painting. Meeting in the morning, and completed a bunch of 'Big Data Day' reviews in the afternoon. https://flic.kr/p/2ipBeWg

4807

Image
February 3, 2020. Either I was a bit early or the 4807 was a bit late, but either way, I had to stop for it on the way in. Today I worked on my OER paper, and with an extra push. I got it sent off by the end of the day. https://flic.kr/p/2ipzxyj

Return of the Shelves

Image
January 2, 2020. These are the shelves I built in Moncton; they've been in storage (and the books in boxes) but I reassembled them today. We need to get the place a bit more ship-shape if we want kittens; the house needs to be safe for them. This was the first step. I did miss my little buddy, who would have been by my side for the whole project, even when ti was noisy. https://flic.kr/p/2iorCz3

Winterlude

Image
February 1, 2020. We went into the city and walked around downtown to enjoy Winterlude, Ottawa's mid-winter festival mostly known for its ice carvings. It was good to get outside, take some photos, and put everything else to the side for a day. https://flic.kr/p/2inXL5P
