Quebec Carnival

Image
February 17, 2025. One more from Quebec Carnival as we arrived home (very late) on the train today. Still way better than driving would have been. https://flic.kr/p/2qMg7bU

Night Parade

Image
February 15, 2025. Photo from the night parade at Quebec Carnivale. We were here for a conference at Universite Laval and added a couple of days to enjoy the city. https://flic.kr/p/2qM1pyS

Bird on a Rope with a Seed

Image
October 18, 2024. On the way home from Mont Tremblant we stopped to see the Sentir des cimes, a skywalk and forest tower. The season was perfect with brightly coloured leaves and nice fall weather. Along the way there were birds, and this was one. https://flic.kr/p/2qoBzQH

Riviere Rouge

Image
July 11, 2024. This is the Riviere Rouge at Brebuf, which I finally visited by bicycle. That wan't my plan, but there was a lot of construction on the P'tit Train du Nord trail between Tremblant and Labelle, so I took an alternate - and much longer, and much hillier - route back. Almost 70 km, but more importantly, about 400 m elevation gain. https://flic.kr/p/2q3MynU

Chateau Frontinac

Image
February 4, 2024. We had another fun day at the Carnival today, walking 7 kilometres around Quebec City (including up the escarpment after the funicular stopped running. This is the classic photo of the Chateau in the same style taken by thousands of photographers before me - including me, at least twice. https://flic.kr/p/2pwsw2h

Claudia Bouvette

Image
February 3, 2024. This is Claudia Bouvette in concert a the Quebec Carnival. Easily the coldest concert we've ever been to. We spent the day enjoying Carnival. https://flic.kr/p/2pwhk8Y

Quebec Carnival

Image
February 2, 2024. We spent the day driving to Quebec City today for the opening on Quebec Carnival. Though it's a Canadian institution, this is the first time we've even been to it. We got out passes this evening and retreated to the hotel in the face of a biting cold east wind. We have the right clothes for the weather, but weren't wearing them. Resting tonight, then enjoying the events tomorrow. https://flic.kr/p/2pw5k4P

Caps

Image
October 4, 2023. This is a scene along the Caps trail as we climbed Mont Tremblant today. It's my second time climbing it, and I've lost count of how many times Andrea has done it. I fell a few times, and in one fall I smashed the glass on my phone. But it was still a brilliant walk up the mountain, and as before, I wasn't sore or bruised after. Also, as you can see, we hit peak foliage on this trip. https://flic.kr/p/2p8AtZa

Labelle

Image
October 2, 2023. These are the falls in the Riviere Rouge at Labelle. Today I went for a cycle up the P'tit Train du Nord from Mont Tremblant. I had lunch at the train station restaurant - something I missed on my big trip because it was closed. I also got quite a bit of work done today as well finishing off my Data Literacy paper. https://flic.kr/p/2p8C5Tj

La Verendrye

Image
August 10, 2023. This is today, Day 12 on my ride to La Verendrye via Véloroute des Draveurs (out) and Petit Train du Nord (back). I saw exactly one other bikepacker out there. View progress here: ridewithgps.com/users/5664109 https://flic.kr/p/2oUWsaR

Parc du Lac-Beauchamp

Image
June 25, 2023. This is the trail through Parc du Lac-Beauchamp, at the eastern edge of Gatineau. It was an easy 5 km walk, though it was warm and the smoke from the firest fires filled the air. https://flic.kr/p/2oKxfYr

Forêt-la-Blanche Ecological Reserve

Image
October 23, 2022. We went for a hike in the Forêt-la-Blanche Ecological Reserve today, 4.6 km and 314 m of elevation gain. It felt a lot easier this time than the last time we were there. Beautiful fall day, warm and sunny, still with some good colour. https://flic.kr/p/2nUQEov

Sentier Iroquois

Image
September 11, 2022. The is the river along the Sentier Iroquois near Duhamel, Quebec. It's an area of rugged beauty. Andrea and I went for what turned out to be a strenuous 8 km hike up to the falls and back on a sweltering late summer day. A lot of work, but the scenery was worth it. https://flic.kr/p/2nLk8nM

Sept-Iles

Image
August 9, 2020. Bikepacking Anticosti Day 3 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6iEqkbEQ8w - A full day on the ferry, a quick walk through Sept-Isles, arrival (at last!) at Anticosti. https://flic.kr/p/2nHQ8yb

2016-06-02

The decision for today was this: prepare the slides for Friday, and then drive, or drive first and prepare later. This keeping in mind I'd be in Montreal and picking up Andrea at the train station. I chose to drive, then prepare, then pick up Andrea. The timing was perfect, but somewhere along the line I threw out my back, which made the walk to the train station an agony. This is Saint-Apollinaire, about 35 km in from Quebec City, where I stopped for lunch. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Y8N4GK

Wakefield, Quebec

Image
July 8, 2015. Wakefield, Quebec, on a beautiful July summer day. Meetings through morning and noon, but I had a couple hours in the afternoon to walk around before heading back to the city. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1HkNr7S
