Brontoburger

Image
February 25, 2014. I'm in Fredericton doing a program launch workshop for our LPSs program, and Tuesday evening we all webt to Brewbaker's, a restraurant in the downtown. This isn't my rib, it was some else's, but we all had a good time making Flintstones jokes after seeing this. Oh yeah - this was the half order! from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/kv4P76

Café Codiac

Image
February24, 2014. This is where I go for coffee every morning (or noon in summer, when I'm cycling). It's not too far out of the way, and the coffee is sourced directly from producers and roasted on site. I bring their coffee with me when I travel. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/kuWQTB

So Sweet

Image
February 23, 2014. Like so many other Canadians I was up first thing in the morning on a Sunday to make sure we won gold in the Olympics. And we did, with a team that really was one of the best ever assembled. It reminds me that I did a photo of the day for Team Canada gold four years ago, in 2010, when we won it in Vancouver. Full circle. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/kpkHuk

The Voice

Image
February 22, 2014. A full house at the Plan B lounge on St. George Street watches local songstresss Caroline Savoie compete and advance to the next round on France's version of The Voice. Rod Savoie, my colleague at work, and Caroline's father, set up the VPN so we could watch French television in Canada. The local media was also here - the camera belongs to Radio-Canada. I also recorded video of the show; you can view it at youtu.be/iUg13TZ8ilw from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/knWBBP

Under the Dome

Image
February 21, 2014. Heading home late on a Friday afternoon, no time for pictures except to snap this shot looking straight up in the atrium outside our offices. Everybody always asks, is that a room up there? But as you can see, it's a skylight. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/kmrC8o

Snowfall

Image
February 20, 2014. I promised myself yesterday I would take this type of photo today, because just like yesterday, I knew we would have an overnight snowfall today. And we did. This is the pond on Crowley Farm Road just where it passes our offices in Moncton. I see these trees every day on theway to wek. I've watched the pond evolve over the last dozen years. The same ducks come back every year, and it's slowly becoming a marsh. And in the winter, once in a while, it looks like this. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/kij951

Ludlow Hall

Image
February 18, 2014. This is Ludlow Hall, home of the Faculty of Law, on the University of New Brunsiwck campus. I was up in Fredericton for meetings all day, in between two hours of driving each way. Yes, that was my day. This was the view outside the window of one of my meetings. Nice view, and I enjoyed the blue sky while it lasted. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/keuTap

Frustrating Loss

Image
February 17, 2014. Meetings this morning and afternoon, then spin class, then straight to the basketball game where the Miracles had a brutal third quarter en route to a frustrating 99-89 loss. I got some really good photos, though; I'll post a few more to my Flickr account. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/kcG28D

Snow Day

Image
February 16, 2014. Nothing more depressing than a snow day on Sunday. It means a day of being indoors - in my case, spending the entire day watching the Olympics and updating JQuery, Bootstrap and TinyMCE on my websites. Yes, that was an all-day job. Oh yes, this is my front lawn and walkway - old maple to the left, new oak to the right, and a poor broken mock orange bush. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/kbhLEF

Seen Off Wheeler

Image
February 15, 2014. Just some houses we can see off Wheeler at the light at Lewisville Road. Wheeler is the main highway between Champlain Mall, where the Shoppers is, and Trinity Drive, where the Costco is, and so I'm often stopped at this light on a Saturday. Like today. It's nice to get out of the house, though, for some coffee; I've been working on website code all day. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/k7Q74H

Rain and Mist and Fog

Image
February 14, 2014. Rain and mist and fog. That's the weather we got in Moncton, which caused localized flooding but otherwise nothing serious. Of course, we're used to the whole city turning into slush and then flash-freezing. The bulldozer, by the way, is one of many involved in converting the beautiful forest near where I work into a subdivision complete with strop mall and more student housing. It's called 'the Vision Lands'. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/k6cf9T

The Silver Sky

Image
February 13, 2014. People around here in New Brinswick know that when we see that silver sky, the one laden with moisture and glimmering with potential, that weather (most of it nasty) is on the way. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/k6bQsV

Ammon Road

Image
February 12, 2014. Once again I took the time over lunch to go up Gorge Road and across along Ammon to McLaughlin, again o visit the country on a beuatiful daya and to capture an image I spotted yesterday. It's ncie to have a few days this week that are not rush rush rush. Thpse days will return quickly enough. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/k2pCeH

Gorge Road

Image
February 11, 2014. I took a quick drive up Gorge Road today to get a picture during my lunch break - the sky was clear and blue, as you can see, and I wanted to see what the world looked like outside the city. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jZyq9p

St Patrick's

Image
February 10, 2014. I've lived a block away from St Patrick's for the last ten years but it is only this year I've started taking spin class there. I had always thought it was a daycare, but discovered it's a fitness centre once I started searching for a place for fitness classes. Much better than some gym! So I've been going there Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings (at least, when I'm not traveling). And yes, that is Moncton's famous castle in the background. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jXPCr4

Misty Moon

Image
February 9, 2014. We bought this at the craft fair when we moved into out new house and put it in our hallway window, where it catches the southern light. The plastic is to keep the cold out. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jVNnjT

Dyson Spheres

Image
February 8, 2014. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me most of the day, but I did get this shot from home just before midnight. That's one of those Dyson bladeless fans; it was overpriced but is fun to have. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jV2mb2

Winter Forest

Image
February 7, 2014. This is a pretty typical scene in Canada in winter, and is in fact what I saw as I parked in the parking lot when I arrived at the office this morning. Love that blue sky (even if it meant slightly frosty weather). Don't love that wind blowing snow on me. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jRbMVH

Wire Rope

Image
February 6, 2014. So this was intended to be a photo of the building in the background, but the camera is beautifully focused on the wire rope in the foreground. It was taken from the airport lounge; my flight Wednesday night was canceled so I had an unusual midday flight home from Ottawa today. The building in the background has been there since my childhood, and I always marvel how in all that time they've never finished the roof. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jPsdZJ

Oak Leaves

Image
January 5, 2015. I was rushing to sign some papers during lunch break in an all day session at NRC's office in Ottawa but took a momewnt to admire and photograph these oak leaves just outside building M-54. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jPpwdi

Perceptions of Reality

Image
February 4, 2013. This sculpture is located on the main floor of the CISTI building (M-55) in Ottawa and is called Perceptions of Reality, and is by David Makow. I saw a nearly identical sculpture a few hours later in the lobby of M-50, so I wonder whether it isn't a set. The very large wall hanging behind the sculpture says "Defend the Earth", and now is an almost ironic twist in this building that is nearly empty of staff these days. As you may have guessed, today was another training day in Ottawa; so is tomorrow. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jL3SuP

Snorkel

Image
February 3, 2014. A meeting in the morning, on the road this afternoon, back to Ottawa, where I discovered this fascinating device parked near a gate in the airport. I thought it looked very well balanced and need. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jJEuaw

Dancers

Image
February 2, 2014. Everything was different at this afternoon's basketball games, including the uniforms worn by the cheerleaders - instead of the usual orange they wore referee stripes in honour of today's Super Bowl. To no avail. A sloppy game, a loss - but I did like the new uniforms. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jGQcra

Dead Hard Drives

Image
February 1, 2014. I went to work with my photos this week and found two of the three photo backup drives had failed. So into the pile of dead hard drives they went (and I'm loading up some new backup files). Note the logos. I am completely finished buying products from Seagate and WD. I've always had problems with them and they don't last more than a couple years (sometimes, they don't last more than a few minutes). from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/jFhKoZ
