Online Meeting

Image
February 27, 2018. I was to give a presentation to the group today, so I set up xSplit to feed into the Jabber client so I could show slides and stuff. The setup worked perfectly (I did a test recording) but the presentation was postponed for two weeks. But I did like the way the full video scene looked against my screen saver. You can see the back wall of my office, as well as parts of my computer desktop. Plus two cans of tuna, Gaviscon, and an emergency supply of mixed nuts (we don't really have access to food or coffee). https://flic.kr/p/21ZcALL

Greenbelt

Image
February 26, 2018. The highway was backed up so I found myself on Innes Road on the way in to the office. This is the view from Innes Road, which was also backed up (but not as badly as the highway). The Greenbelt isn't exactly green yet, but there are signs of life. More interviews today for the CSPS project. https://flic.kr/p/24Ka2vc

View from the Exercise Bike

Image
February 25, 2018. Got back from Toronto realizing I had gained some weight, and it seemed nice enough to go biking, but with freezing rain outside it was downstairs to the exercise bike. The good news, though, is that Blue Jays spring training has started. https://flic.kr/p/24K9LUi

Kingston

Image
February 24, 2018. These logs are beside the car pool parking lot at an exit on the 417 near Kingston. I had a better photo but it was out of focus, so this backup photo takes the day. We were stopped there so I could coax the MLB app into running again so we could listen to the ballgame (it's not a very stable app this year). https://flic.kr/p/24zQqcY

Spoon Frog

Image
February 23, 2018. This lovely spoon is a speaker's gift presented to me after my talk at the Moodle Moot. The talk went pretty well, I thought, and I enjoyed the discussion with the panelists after (something that more keynote talks could benefit from). https://flic.kr/p/24zQ4Eq

York University

Image
February 22, 2018. I attended the first day of the Moodle Moot conference today, watching Martin Dougiamas and David Porter (by video), among others. This is a shot from the mall attached to the student building, hidden up near the ceiling. It reminded me of Colombia. The photo became the cover for my slides. https://flic.kr/p/23yVief

Vaughn

Image
February 21, 2018. Drove all day and arrived in Vaughn, Ontario, north and west of Toronto. This is the lovely view outside the hotel room window. I'm here for the Canada Moodle Moot conference. https://flic.kr/p/23hwsfe

Parliament in the Mist

Image
February 20, 2018. One thing I like about Ottawa is driving by the Parliament Buildings just in the course of an everyday day. Here I'm driving over the Alexandra Bridge after a workshop in Gatineau and traffic was slow enough (ie., stopped) to allow me to take this photo of Parliament as seen from the river, with the Parliamentary Library front and centre. https://flic.kr/p/23aNyRR

Street Lights

Image
February 19, 2018. This is looking across the tracks from the road out front, toward the new subdivision. There are roads and streetlights but no houses yet, which produces this unusual arrangement of lights in the evening misty rain. I spent the day today analyzing interview data. https://flic.kr/p/2394fZa

Costco

Image
February 18, 2018. After a quick trip to Costco I spent the day coding and listening to the new Brandi Carlile album. This is our local Costco. https://flic.kr/p/2379b6V

Winterlude

Image
February 17, 2018. We went skating on the canal today. It was Andrea's first time and she did really well. I did much less so, though I did manage to stagger around a but. We also had BeaverTails, walked around the ice sculptures, and enjoyed the whole atmosphere. https://flic.kr/p/EMsVCT

The Nest

Image
February 16, 2018. I'm sure this has been there all year - maybe even longer - but I didn't notice it until today. It's not the greatest photo but I wanted to record it for posterity. It's just outside my office, by the parking lot. Mixed bag today: wrote a blog post, did some project interviews, evaluated a funding proposal and worked a little on gRSShopper. https://flic.kr/p/233C7Zc

Chickadee

Image
February 15, 2018. Frustrating day as it took all day to do the OPML code on gRSShopper. I kept making silly errors. On the way home I took a short walk in the forests by Mer Bleu. I only had the compact camera with me and got some so-so photos of Chickadees. https://flic.kr/p/23itRGd

Gloucester Centre

Image
February 14, 2018. Pretty good progress on gRSShopper today as I turned my attention to the admin functions. Took a break at lunch to go to Gloucester Centre, a very small mall with a large food court. https://flic.kr/p/EJd6Xt

Evening Trees

Image
February 13, 2018. A day of interviews and project work. There was an absolutely gorgeous sun pillar on the way home, but by the time I got in it had disappeared, leaving me with nothing but this feeble excuse of a sunset. That's the view out the front across the tracks these days. https://flic.kr/p/24ojJiT

Riverside Hospital

Image
February 12, 2017. Technically it's the Riverside campus of the Ottawa Hospital, but I think of it as Riverside Hospital. It was time for our annual check-up and I'm pleased to report that my blood pressure is normal, my cholesterol is good, and all the other indicators are as they should be. Andrea had her annual check-up at the same time and she's doing even better than I am. It does remind me, though, that I should be spinning more to get ready for a summer of cycling. https://flic.kr/p/24ojrLz

Alex

Image
February 9, 2018. Where would photo of the day be without cat photos. Long day of interviews and project work. Came home very tired. Took this photo at the end of the day. https://flic.kr/p/EAtVea

Nap Time

Image
February 10, 2018. I was pretty tired all day until I took an afternoon nap. This is the scene that greeted me when I woke up, Lexi on the left and Polly on the right. Woke up refreshed and did some stuff on gRSShopper in the evening. https://flic.kr/p/24cGw71

Esso

Image
February 8, 2018. Our local Esso station got a facelift over the last few months and now looks all shiny and new. It's where I go some time to get gas. Like today, for example, on the way home (hence the deep evening light) from an ordinary day in the office. https://flic.kr/p/24bG6QF

Snowscreen

Image
February 7, 2018. I spent the day in my home office watching the snowstorm outside through this screen window while doing CSPS interviews and the tiniest bit of coding (working on the harvester again, just tweaks). https://flic.kr/p/Ev7hwp

Don't Panic

Image
February 6, 2018. Worked on the CSPS project interviews all day today. But the highlight of the day was mid-afternoon when I watched the launch of Falcon Heavy. This is the Tesla Roadster flying toward Mars, as photographed from my monitor. https://flic.kr/p/234wnvS

Inside My Fridge

Image
February 5, 2018. I spent the day coding.... shhhhh. I'm not supposed to be doing this. I'm supposed to be doing some other as-yet unassigned (but definitely not e-learning) work. But I got the viewer working. :) Costco run in the evening. This is the inside of my fridge after the Costco run (the yogurt is Andrea's; I won't touch the vile stuff). https://flic.kr/p/2454EUh

Evening Light

Image
February 4, 2018. Super Bowl Sunday. I didn't watch a minute of it. I spent the day coding gRSShopper. Yes, I'm obsessed. This is the evening light shining into my office, an interesting mix of warm reds and cool blues. https://flic.kr/p/22KuAr4

Tesla at Night

Image
February 3, 2018. I spent the day coding gRSShopper. Did a quick milk run to Metro in the evening. The Tesla pumps were all lit up and ready for use. So far: no Teslas. But I'm sure it won't be long. https://flic.kr/p/KaVaT2

Blue Moon

Image
February 2, 2018. This has bothered me for a while. not that the info-television is permanently "temporarily out of service". I can handle that. It's the moon. Or specifically, the stars inside the dark area moon. *sigh* Ordinary day today, with a relatively fast (Ottawa Friday) commute. https://flic.kr/p/K56Z14

Oak Cluster

Image
February 1, 2018. Sunshine, snow and the oak leaves still clinging to the trees outside M-55 at the NRC campus. Ordinary day today: drive to work, work, drive home through a snow squall. Ah, spring, why do you linger so? https://flic.kr/p/K3sF1M

Super Blood Blue Moon

Image
January 31, 2018. I was up bright and early to catch the setting moon as the special eclipse started. The rest of the day was ordinary, except for the snowstorm in the evening which gave me a two-hour drive home. https://flic.kr/p/FRpSib

PEBHAK

Image
January 30. "Problem exists between human and keyboard." Back into the routine today. Work. Costco. Cat. https://flic.kr/p/22BWqgR
