The Warming Light

Image
June 25, 2016. Scene from the front yard looking at the pink rose as warmed by the later afternoon sunlight. I'll miss my rose bushes. From Flickr http://ift.tt/28VNJFo

Field of Lupins

Image
June 24, 2016. If you let an invasive species loose, it will grow. Such is the story of the Lupin in south-east New Brunswick, which has over the last 15 years become the dominant species along the sides of highways. This is the scene just outside the St. Hubert barbeque on Trinity. Good thing I like lupins. From Flickr http://ift.tt/28VNI4a

Kitchen Cabinets

Image
June 23, 2016. Late at night looking at the completed first coat on the kitchen cabinets. This is one of those moments where I really hope the second coat makes all the difference, or painting these things will be a very expensive mistake. From Flickr http://ift.tt/28W0IKH

Laverty Falls

Image
June 18, 2016. Still waitimg for varnish to dry. This is a good way to do it, hiking in the Fundy wilderness and taking tourism photos. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1V6mHvC

Alma

Image
June 17, 2016. Drove out to Alma on the Bay of Fundy to wait for the varnish to dry in the house. It's hard to be waiting, not working, but the weather is finally turning. From Flickr http://ift.tt/23iXrbK

Current State of the House

Image
June 16, 2016. It's dragging on but the end is in sight. The hardwood floors are being refinished, the paint is on the walls, and we're preparing for varnish and trim. I'm listing in less than two weeks. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1sJOWdc

Wild Rose Inn

Image
June 15, 2016. With the house full of workers and sawdust I had to bail for a bit and stay in the Wild Rose Inn , a reasonably priced hotel up the Shediac Road near Lakeville. Definitely recommended. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1sJPjo2

Lupins

Image
June 14, 2016. If this is Lupins I must be in Moncton. Yes, I'm back at the house managing renovations and getting things ready. Full busy days doing work for which I've had no training whhatsoever. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1sGqskM

North Shore

Image
June 13, 2016. Departed Les Escoumins by Ferry to Trois-Pistoles, then drove the rest of the way to Moncton. Saw the aftermath of an accident on the highway which left me in a sombre mood all day. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1sGqn0H

St-Rose-du-Nord

Image
June 12, 2016. Spectacular day. Drove 550 km from Chibougamau in the far north of Quebec to Les Escoumins on the north shore of the St Lawrence River. This photo is from the highway about 30 km east of Chicoutimi near St-Rose-du-Nord. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1S5rNqb

The Road North

Image
June 11, 2016. Drove from Amos to Chibougamau. This somewhere along that road, maybe 100 km in from Chibougamau. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Ylq2fW

Chipmunk

Image
June 10, 2016. Meetings this morning, then I took a short photo-tour of the town (including this furry guy in the water park), then hit the road en routee to Amos, Quebec. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1U0eaum

The Northern Route

Image
June 9, 2016. Truck on the highway outside my Super 8 hotel in Kapuskasing. I spent the fill day at Université de Hearst watching a workshop and a talk and doing one of my own. Accomplishments: - workshop audio and slides From Flickr http://ift.tt/1U0cS2K

The Stare

Image
June 8, 2016. I spent a leisurely day visiting the cities of the clay belt in northern Quebec and Ontario. I saw three bears and two moose, including this bear staring me down as she protected her cubs. If you see thhat stare, back away, slowly. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Ui16Ep

La Vérendrye

Image
June 7, 2016. In the office, a couple of meetings, mowed the front lawn, and drove to Val-d'Or, Quebec, traversing the beautiful Réserve faunique La Vérendrye en route. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1rd2a0w

What's Up Buttercup

Image
June 6, 2016. Another day taking it easy on my back, relatively easy given the rain that fell through the day. Went into the office, putterd, got my time sheets up to date. This beautiful buttercut is in my back yard, one of the beneficiaries of my current inability to mow the lawn. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1XEmdDQ

Hostas in the Rain

Image
June 5, 2016. It's hard to spend the day just sitting around, especially when there's so much to do, but it's the only way I'll get better. So I played with the cats, watched the jays game, and basically did nothing. But my back feels a bit better. So there's that. Hostas from the front yard, rain from the sky. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1XvltRi

Fleabane

Image
June 4, 2016. Fleabane, or erigeron, growing in our vack yard. Not exactly what I planned to show for today. But with my back hurt, and with no money to spend (everything has gone into the house) the only thing to do on a beautiful June Satrurday in Montreal was to drive home and lie flat on a bed as soon as possible. Which is exactly what I did. Beautiful spring days in Montreal are a rare treasure and sad to miss, but there will be more. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Y8MUPG

Salle Marie-Gérin-Lajoie

Image
June 3, 2016. Gave the opening keynbote today at the SALTISE conference in Salle Marie-Gérin-Lajoie at UQAM in Montreal, which has these beautiful frescoes outside the door. I attended the conference the rest of the day, which was interesting, but by the end of the day my lower back was on fire, which ended my day early. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Y8MYPt

2016-06-02

Image
The decision for today was this: prepare the slides for Friday, and then drive, or drive first and prepare later. This keeping in mind I'd be in Montreal and picking up Andrea at the train station. I chose to drive, then prepare, then pick up Andrea. The timing was perfect, but somewhere along the line I threw out my back, which made the walk to the train station an agony. This is Saint-Apollinaire, about 35 km in from Quebec City, where I stopped for lunch. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Y8N4GK

King's Landing

Image
June 1, 2016. I had a webinar I had to attend today. Decision: do I wait in Moncton and do it at Cdiac Café? Or do it en route. I stopped here, at King's Landing for it, thinking it would be a nice place to get a photo and have my conversation. No such luck: despite it being a beautiful summer day, King's Landing was closed. New Brunswick may depend on tourism, but the province still does not understand tourism. Anyhow, I made it to Riviere du Loup in plenty of time. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1r7Fdf9

They Might Be Chives

Image
May 31, 2016. Scene from the backyard in Moncton. Last year we leveled it, and this is what came up this sprint. Did some more painting and work, but I'm going to have to come back again in mid-June. From Flickr http://ift.tt/282V7cC
