Recycled

April 30, 2017. Sunday afternoon, I got a whole lot of work done on my paper, a nd the Blue jays won. And as usual, Alex spent the afternoon with me, sleeping in the most handy box around.

World Cow

Image
April 29, 2017. Out on the bicycle today, a nice 50 km ride on a sunny day but on the cool side and with strong winds. Saw this cow along the road.

Mourning Dove

Image
April 28, 2017. Finished the design of my newsletter today and advanced a bit in coding. And took this photo of a beautiful mourning dove that I think is nesting in the eaves of the house.

Rebirth

Image
April 26, 2017. In the back yard next to the house a plant springs anew among the dead stalks of last year. Ah, I love spring. Had big plans for today, but needed to sort out a bunch of gRSShopper bugs and update everything on GitHub.

In / Out

Image
April 25, 2017. I've never seen anything in this box, and I doubt that it is used any more. Spotted in the halway outside my office. One meeting today, and a chunk of the day spent watching a video on open practices, but otherwise work without progress (and SourceTree mysteriously stopped pushing files up to GitHub).

Guilty

Image
April 24, 2017. Lexi isn't actually guilty, but she certainly appears guilty as she hovers near the power bar. Busy day today with minimal progress.

Chrysler

Image
April 23, 2017. This is the Chrysler Community Centre in the foreground and the local church in the background, courtesy of my 37 km bike ride to the town and back this afternoon.

The Chicken

Image
April 22, 2017. I ddn't sleep at al last night. So instead I listened to the Blue Jays game - it started at 10:;00 p.m. and ended at 3:36 or something like that. And was, happily, a win. But that pretty much erased any ambition I had for today. We got this chicken at the craft fair in Moncton when we bought our house there in 2001; now, a bit faded, it hangs in our Casselman kitchen.

Iron Art

Image
April 21, 2017. Today was dentist day. Any thoughts I had of working evaporated after my morning appointment. This is some iron artwork in the dentists' washroom. I'm not complaining; he did excellent painless work. But going to the dentist still takes a lot out of me, just because of the stress.

April 20, 2017. Happy 4-20! I had a relatively productive day today, especially compared to the last week. This is the train as it goes through Casselman - it was moving so slowly I thought I could outflank it but no luck. Blue Jays lost, but it was a great game so I don Accomplishments: - submitted CTE self-assessment - attended Build in Canada reviewers round 7 intro session - renewed by car's registration

Birds on a Lawn

Image
April 19, 2017. It rained most of the day as I puttered away in my office. Meanwhile, birds were attracted to our backyard in droves - starlings, chickadees, sparrows, crows, robins... the cardinals are around, but I didn't see them today; same with the goldfinches.

Peat Bog

Image
April 18, 2017. The highlight of my day was me sitting on a bench and eating lunch here, looking out over the peat bog at Mer Bleu. The rest of the day was a write-off. I drove into work, remembered I had a dental appointment, had a cavity, drove back to work (via my lunch break), at which point the power went out, drove to Costco, stabbed one of my toes, drove home, saw all the stuff I missed today. No word on the Jays game yet, but how good can it be?

Signals

Image
April 17, 2017. Another day of rest. I meant to do things like work or whatever but instead watched videos and puttered all day. Just as well; it wasn't a good day for OLDaily posts as one item after another struck me as just wrong.

Liam and the Cheese Factory

Image
April 16, 2017. Bill and Shirley met us at the cheese factory in St. Albert where we had some ice cream and then watched them make cheese for a while. This is their youngoust son Liam trying hard not to pose whle posing. We later went to Brians for supper. Nice evening!

A Lone Crow

Image
April 15, 2017. Stayed indoors all day and rested. I thought it might be a good day for biking, but as you can see, it wasn't.

Camera

Image
April 14, 2017. Online meeting first thing this morning, then went for a nice 25 km ride to St. Albert and back thiss afternoon. So I was ready for pizza when we visited with family in Embrun this evening. This is Lorelei taking my picture with her, um, camera.

Waiting for Summer

Image
April 13, 2017. Put on the summer tires today and while I was waiting, took this picture of a deck across the road. The flag, if you're wondering, is the Franco-Ontario flag, and greets visitrs to Casselman. Spent all morning getting my office Windows to update properly (n ot sure of the time code for that) and then as I started work, the internet went down.

Weir

Image
April 12, 2017. I worked through the day on an LRS, setting up the ADL reference implementation and running tests on it. I also fixed a problem with OLDaily email. Then I thought I'd go for a bke ride but the 7 degree temperature and rain cut it short. Still, I went far enough to get this photo of the Casselman weir.

The 6:35 to Ottawa

Image
April 11, 2017. This is the track just near our house, and as I was taking some photos the 6:35 came by. One of those days today - spent the day installing software, setting up AWS, etc. Finally turned off a zombie database that was costing me $2 a day.

Bridge

Image
April 10, 2017. It was the first nice day of the year so I was able to get out for a short bike ride. This is the St. Isadore Road Bridge over the Nation River just a few kilometers out of town.

Evening

Image
April 9, 2017. Sunday evening at home on the first day it feels like itt might be spring. This is a weed in the back yard and the barfk of a tree.

Tomatoes

Image
April 8, 2017. No, not from my garden or anything like that, but I liked the way they looked on the vine. Good day of writing today (it takes a long time to write a long paper when you're doing iti weekends, but my employers pay me for other things these days).

Cardinals

Image
April 7, 2017. OK, this isn't the best photo in the world - they were taken with the Sony outside the window. Both of these cardinals - a male and a female - were in our crabapple tree. So I guess we have a pair of nexting cardinals around here. Awesome.

Anderson Road

Image
Aril 6, 2017. This is from Anderson Road, at the corner of Innes, on the way into the office today. It was raining hard all day and I took the back roads to avoid the traffic on the highway.

Feeding

Image
April 5, 2017. Watching the snow melt outside my office window, and watching the starings feeding on the newly exposed grass.

Table Buddha

Image
April 4, 2017. I reset the Sony point-and-shoot and began shooting in RAW; it's a four year old camera but it still produces great images. This is a study of the Buddha that sits on the kitchen table. Taking it was the most productive thing I did all day.

Opening Day

Image
April 3, 2017. This is me in my office celebrating the start of a new Blue Jays season 156 days after the last day last year. It felt like spring all over - I saw a bright red cardinal in a tree this morning, a huge hawk (or eagle) on the way in, and watched a moose wandering down the side of the highway on the way home.

The Shelves Return

Image
April 2, 2017. This morning a large truck pulled up and delivered my bookshelves from Moncton. I had left them in the Moncton house hoping it would help sell it, but in the end decided I wanted them more than I wanted to be paid for them. So now they're back in my possession and we're figuring out where to put them. Alex is obviously glad to see them again. Meanwhile, today was a good solid day of writing and I got a lot done.

Fading Daylight

Image
April 1, 2017. I spent the day working on my Contact North paper in the home office, emerging in time to see the fading daying against the trees in the back yard.

Dumpster

Image
March 31, 2017. I've been admiring this dumpster for some time. It's out behing M-55 at NRC, and instead of old rusty metal it's made out of some superstrong plastic (now *this* is how we should be using the world's supply of oil, not burning it). Anyhow, send off the final report for the CSPS project today and put it to bed, a job well done. Accomplishments: - submitted CSPS Business Case

Costco Again

Image
March 30, 2017. I sometimes joke that I live in Costco. I certainly spend enough time there. The store (and modern grocery stores in general) never fails to amaze me.

Mold

Image
March 29, 2017. I hadn't let my coffee standing very long but when I saw it today there was this layer of mold about an inch from the bottom. I feared I faced a layer of crud, but in fact there was just this thin crist - everything else had dried away. I cut it out with a knife and decided it would make a great photo.
