April 29, 2020. This is our shy skittish and sultry Julia doing her best not to pose for the camera. I had almost no energy today, and so it was a low-productivity sort of day. https://flic.kr/p/2iVMJDv
April 28, 2020. Had a meeting this morning, then did some links, then prepared my notes and recorded a presentation on video, basically the presentation I might have given last night (but wouldn't have; it would have come out different). Last night, of course, was a seminar in Curt Bonk's class. So I've been a couple days with these slides. Late this afternoon I took advantage of the clear blue sky and warmish temperature to do a quick loop to St. Albert and back. https://flic.kr/p/2iVozMR
April 27, 2020. Cool, windy and rainy. Worked on the ethics paper, OLDaily, and preparing (and delivering) a seminar for Curt Bonk's class. I like working with Curt; it's always quite relaxed and there's quite a bit of the unexpected. https://flic.kr/p/2iV59co
April 26, 2020. Today was cooler, windier and cloudier so I went on a shorter bike ride along a dead-end road in a local forest. Other than that, I did some more work on my ethics paper and, um, that's it. https://flic.kr/p/2iUJ2US
April 25, 2020. This is the Castor River just east of Embrun. This afternoon I cycled 34 km there and back to check on family (everyone's doing fine). In the morning I spent a few hours working on the ethics paper (there is a great similarity between exploring ethics papers and exploring No Man's Sky - the universe is practically infinite, and every day new vistas open up before you. https://flic.kr/p/2iUozA8
April 24, 2020. lean and lanky, Charlemagne overflows out of the picture frame. More ethical codes today, plus a meeting. It looks like the weather is finally turning. Also, broke a filling on a tooth. Life today is filled with small stories like these. https://flic.kr/p/2iU1y3b
April 23, 2020. My slippers were the first major casualty of the quarantine. These are Costco slippers. They're actually soft shoes, and should last longer than my leather moccasins. Work today was focused on my ethics paper again - the review of ethics codes that never ends. https://flic.kr/p/2iU31mC
April 22, 2020. This was actually late last night but I wanted to share it. We have kittens just coming of age and need to schedule The Operation for them. The vet needed to be sure they were old enough, so she asked us to send a photo of their teeth. Here are Emma's teeth (we also photographed Julia's). Operations were scheduled today. Meanwhile, I'm ignoring the wind and show outside and concentrating on my work. https://flic.kr/p/2iThb5V
April 21, 2020. Couple of meetings, ethics paper and newsletter. It snowed today. Bleah. To get my revenge, I scheduled my annual bicycle tune-up. https://flic.kr/p/2iSYfDU
April 20, 2020. This is an image from No Man's Sky, where I built this hanging base this evening; my 'exotic' class ship is doing a fly-by.During the day was some project work plus newsletter posts. I was sleepy all day because I accidentally took some no-doze type medicine just before bed and was up half the night. *sigh* https://flic.kr/p/2iSEhjQ
April 19, 2020. I spent most of the day working on my ethics paper - lots of progress today. Cold, windy and rainy outside. Meanwhile our kittens are maturing too quickly - they need The Operation but we're having trouble finding a vet who will do it. So we're treated to the wails of Julia in heat and Charlemagne humping any that does or doesn't move. I'm thinking their birth date wasn't exactly what we were told it was. https://flic.kr/p/2iSezkY
April 18, 2020. The sky was the star today, a brilliant blue with enough cloud to make it interesting. This is a turkey vulture in the sky over a farm just west of Casselman, taken on my 27k bike ride on the gravel bike. Other than that, we went for pet food and I wrote a section or so on my ethics paper. https://flic.kr/p/2iRNdRm
April 16, 2020. We took a quick trip into Costco over the lunch hour, and as I waited in the car and Andrea went in I got to watch a mid-April snow squall roll through. More stuff on the ethics paper today, especially in the section on care. Big highlight - the fast internet is working! https://flic.kr/p/2iR9X5M
April 15, 2020. Yes, it's another bird from our back yard, but with the weather bringing snow there's no getting out for a bike ride for a few days. I spent a bit of time on the ethics paper as well as the usual curation and collecting of links. https://flic.kr/p/2iR5rD6
April 14, 2020. As you can see there's quite a drop behind the stair rail. Now add racing kittens on a slippery floor, and you have a hazard. Rather than waiting for one of them to fall (could be as much as 15 feet) we've woven a kitty barrier all around the stairwell. Work today was mostly meetings, including closing one project with IRAP and starting up another internally. https://flic.kr/p/2iQPHKi
April 13, 2020. I've given up on the idea that Bell will ever give me decent internet, and ordered cable internet (100 gown, 10 up) from a local provider. But they're not sending people into homes to set it up, so I have to figure out the wiring for myself. It's a bit of a challenge but you can see all the green lights on the modem, showing that I'm at least connected. Now I'm just waiting for them to turn on the internet for me. https://flic.kr/p/2iQ5h2m
April 12, 2020. The grackles descended on the feeder again today but the other birds held their own, including this female cardinal (her mate was not far away). I spent the day on my ethics paper, which has been sadly neglected over the last few weeks. Oh yea, and I had chocolate Easter bunnies. https://flic.kr/p/2iPLdYC
April 11, 2020. We did a Costco run today. I'm pleased to report that there was a plentiful supply of toilet paper in stock (if you look you can see some in the photo). Andrea wore her home-made plaid face-mask into the store and I waited in the car (when there's *not* a pandemic I do most of the shopping). https://flic.kr/p/2iPorUM
April 10, 2020. Another cold and rainy day spent indoors with Andrea and the cats. This is Charlemagne enjoying naptime. I added some material to my ethics paper/book and did some newsletter posts and otherwise had a quiet day. https://flic.kr/p/2iP3zyV
April 9, 2020. Today was the end of four weeks working from home. Spring is slowly arriving - today's robin is a sure sign (today's snow was not). https://flic.kr/p/2iNC5bf
April 8, 2020. This road ends in a field about 8 km from my home, the half-way point in a short noon-hour ride. Today was about catching up on reading and preparing newsletter posts. https://flic.kr/p/2iNitj2
April 7, 2020. I got out for a 29 km ride this afternoon. It's probably the last nice ride for a bit as the weather is turning - maybe even some snow for the long weekend. Two meetings today, one blog post written, and the usual editing for the Quick Guide and posts for the newsletter.newsletter. https://flic.kr/p/2iN4ieE
April 6, 2020. It was nice and almost warm out today, so I got out for a nice 22 km ride over lunch. This is a view of High Falls with Casselman in the background. Today was spent updating online research, adding to the ethics document, and writing newsletter posts. https://flic.kr/p/2iMKiZo
April 5, 2020. Today was a generally wet day outside, so I stayed in and worked on newsletter posts for most of the day and wrote an article. The kittens, meanwhile, have been romping through the household, causing Lexi to express her, um, displeasure at their antics. https://flic.kr/p/2iMHpgt
April 4, 2020. I actually did some work on the ethics paper today! I also got out for a 30km bike ride. This is a photo from that ride, seen from a dirt road I don't usually ride (but which is fine for the gravel bike). I also added a bunch of tweets to a conversation online. https://flic.kr/p/2iM3Dcc
April 3, 2020. Our weekly trip to the Costco was a lot slower this time as they've implemented social distancing measures inside the store. Other than that today was a slowish day as I updated the newsletter, looked at the ethics paper a bit (first time in a while!) and checked on changes to the Quick Guide. Also did an online interview. https://flic.kr/p/2iLSiF3
April 2, 2020. My main accomplishment today was completing my timesheets. No, that's not true, I also took this photo of a female brown-headed cowbird (the male was on the other side of the feeder). Otherwise, I did some work on the Quick Guide and events calendar, along with the newsletter. https://flic.kr/p/2iLERhF
April 1, 2020. It was a nice day today but I was tired and it was a bit cool so there was no chance for a bike ride. So I stayed inside and worked all day from morning till evening, playing No Man's Sky after supper. https://flic.kr/p/2iLHAHY
March 31, 2020. Today was a day of four meetings, all on Zoom. Also a day of full sump pump operations. I'm feeling the effects of social distancing. But I'm still doing better than most, a fact not lost on me. https://flic.kr/p/2iLJMyz
