Lilacs and Rain

Image
May 31, 2015. The last day of May is cold and rainy. An indoor day. There are the Moscow Beauties in the front yard enjoying the rain and realy to blossom. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1RD4CWw

New Brunswick Trail

Image
March 30, 2015. An old rail bridge near Salisbury. Against a brisk southwest wind I cycled out to Salisbury and then followed the 'New Brunswick Trail' across the river. This is an old railbed that split from the mail line in Salisbury and crossed overland to Hillsborough. The trail is not suitable for cycling; it is a mixture of very coarse gravel and deep potholes. Cyclists are actually prohibited on the bridge, for good reason - the surface is very uneven and you could easily ride over the side and into the river. ATVs own the route and will probably never let it be used by cyclists and pedestrians. Too bad. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1AG3ptf

Cabella's

Image
May 29, 2015. Cabela's opened here in Moncton yesterday on what was once a beautiful piece of parkland, so I took some of my noon hour to visit today. This is a former deer stuffed and mounted for the viewing pleasure of the clientele. Cabela's caters to the hunting and fishing crowd, and it made me wonder whether New Brunswick has enough wildlife left to support all the firearms, meat processing equipment, and shock-collars for dogs (to keep them from barking) for sale in this store. Oh well, after these people are finished, we won't need to worry about elk and deer being displaced by Irving's clear-cutting operations. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1FkHrst

Stump

Image
May 28, 2015. This is the old wood stump at the edge of the parking lot at St. Patricks, where I have spin class. It's a good entry for this week's 'texture' theme in the Moncton Photographers group. It looks like people from the hospital across the street use it as a place to stub cigarettes, which (give that it's an old wood stump) is really a very bad idea. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1J6hCCR

Dining Room

Image
May 27, 2015. It was a beautiful day outside but I had four meetings plus spin class. So it was an indoor day for me. This is our dining room, uncharacteristically clean in antipation of visitors over the wekend. Obviously we need to polish the surface. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1d2sdAI

Sad Sack

Image
May 26, 2015. Busy difficult day with a three hour meeting and then a case of ripped pants. Had to go gone and sleep. So this is a photo from the week-end, the sad sack clown from Moncton Museum. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1JXQUeG

Wind

Image
May 25, 2015. It was a beautiful 29 degrees today. Sadly, I spent it in the office with four meetings lined up one after the other. Just as well though, since there was a strong wind all day. Regular viewers will recognize this as the entrance to the building where I work. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1JROkqF

Hail

Image
May 23, 2015. It alternated between cold and colder today, and in black of downdraft we got hail. Tiny pebble-sized hail, admittedly, but it's still an oddity in these parts. Good thing I spent the day indoors. The dining room looks great now! From Flickr http://ift.tt/1AocVS2

Raspberries

Image
May 22, 2015. I took a look into the jungle that is our backyard. The raspberries, seen here, are flourishing. So are a few mountain ask, a couple maples, and the roses we planted a few years ago. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Kr9lcP

Daffodil

Image
May 21, 2015. A daffodil from the front garden. We have a total of four of them this year. Time to plant some more bulbs. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1K8Mfo0

Spin Class

Image
May 20, 2015. On no-meetings Wednesday today I had three meetings, plus a quarterly report to finish, and some other work. Lots of stress, and I slept poorly last night. Spin class at St. Patrick's Centre ( seen here ) is good for that. No, it didn't eliminate the tinnitus that comes with high-stress days, but it relaxed the stiff neck and made me breathe hard for a while. I've been going reasonably regularly for some 17 months now. It's pretty basic - that's the bike I use, my towel and my water. But I like it, I like the people, and I'd miss it if it weren't there. And it does make those long rides out in the country a lot easier. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1FxM2uM

Raindrops

Image
May 19, 2015. It started out sunny, but today dragged into a May shower, leaving droplets on the trees outside the office. I've been working on a demo - slow going. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1IKarzR

Covered Bridge

Image
May 18, 2015. An absolutely gorgeous Victoria Day Monday here in Moncton, and I cycled 65km out to and back from this covered bridge on Powers Pit Road, which is where I had lunch (fresh strawberries, gradefruit, and tuna). From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Hd9JW3

Tulips

Image
May 17, 2015. Tulips are finally showing some colour in the front garden. Today was an indoor day, with rainshowers outside, puttering away on my book inside. Saw Mad Max Fury Road tonight, great film. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1cJaVIQ

Upper Mountain Road

Image
May 16, 2015. It was a picture-perfect day on the road today (except for one badly place sunken sewer) and I did the Salisbury loop again today. This is looking north from Salisbury Road up Upper Mountain road. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Fg7vqL

Pheasant

Image
May 16, 2015. I was able to cycle to and from the office and spotted this guy wandering along the old railway right of way north of Centennial Park. One brief meeting, getting some projects approved, getting some papers updated. Good day. Sunshine and springtime really help improve the mood. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1EbDZ1y

Short Yellow Tulips

Image
May 14, 2015. Full day of almost wall-to-wall meetings, but I still got some reviewing done, and made it to spin class, and too this photo of these short yellow tulips (planted right next to the house because I thought they would be so tall and brilliant). They've been growing there for almost ten years, so I guess they get the last laugh. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1KOOqgw

Baseball on the Internet

Image
May 13, 2015. I hit a bit of a wall today and wasn't good for anything but watching baseball (and even then, I fell asleep during the Redsox-Athletics game). From Flickr http://ift.tt/1ICqaPY

Workday

Image
May 12, 2015. Today was a working day, spent mostly working while looking out the window and watching people working. I also got my passport photos taken. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1cUpTwm

New Life

Image
May 11, 2015. Hard day filled with unresolved conflicts. Spring is when I like to clean, renew, and start anew. It's not happening this year and I'm not happy with that. Days like this I feel like I have to become mean and angry, or just keep letting people walk all over me. At least the tulips are coming up. Good for them. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1cKjHH4

Government Road

Image
May 10, 2015. Cycled the Salisbury loop today, 55 km, relatively easy ride but still a bit of work this early in the season. Just in from Salisbury is a road I've never taken, Government Road, which as it turns out leads to a trailer park and then these ponds next to the Peticodiac River. Not much to photograph, but I decided to go with this tree, which looks ordinary from a distance but is amazing when you look at it up close. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1FYiUh1

Catamount

Image
May 9, 2015. This is where I had lunch today, at the end of Catamount Road where it crosses the tracks, lunch consisting of two oranges, a small can of tuna, some dried cranberries and some jelly beans. 54 km ride overall, the road was too muddy to keep going, and it was cool and windy, but it's great to get out into the middle of the bush like this. Feet

Image
May 8, 2015. I don't think my feet have ever appeared on the internet before. Well, here they are, in all their glory. Little known fact - I've broken both my left and right big toes playing soccer, and now they no longer bend at the toe knuckle. The plastic bag used to hold 35 Jelly Belly jellybeans. The WISE bag is what I currently use to hold my computer. This is the bedroom floor, under a perpetual state of reconstruction. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Px5clK

Springtime

Image
May 7, 2015. Spring has finally appeared in Moncton, flowers are finally on the trees, and most of the snow is gone. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1zFVcEX

Orange Wave

Image
May 6, 2016. Today was program annual review daya and also the day to bask in the glow of an NDP win in Alberta. No photo, but who needs one when the newspapers are full of such great shots of happin ess and joy. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1bAJhwI

Don't Tell Andrea

Image
May 5, 2005. Up late listening to electiopn results from Alberta, very busy day, I have orange on my mind. Don't tell Andrea, but this spider was lurking in the bedroom. I like spiders in the house, because they feed on annoying insects like flies and such. Andrea's reaction is less supportive. It's like hving a cat in the house; you can be sure you have no mice. Rust

Image
May 5, 2015. I saw this outstanding artifact yesterday while cycling along Coverdale Road from Salisbury, and on learning that this week's Moncton Photos group theme is 'Old and rusty' I had to drive out there over lunch today to grab a photo. Other than that, I spent the day in meetings and preparing for our program review. Good productive day. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1I9OLv6

Coverdale

Image
May 4, 2015. A day that started out well but ended poorly during my 55 km ride around the Salisbury look, this time coming back on Coverdale Road, where I saw this covered bridge. The wind wasn't bad on the way out, but shifted, got stronger, and got colder on the way back. And on the way out the Blue Jays built a nice 6-1 lead, but on the way back they collapsed, falling 10-6. The perfect metaphor for my bike ride. Wrote another response to George, and that was my day. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1dHMKeL

Runoff

Image
May 2, 2015. This was the first day back on the bicycle for the year, and I did a short 28km loop up Gorge Road, Front Mountain Road, down the Northwest Trail and back along Killam and Collishaw. This photo is from a trail that runs off Mapleton on the otherside of the park - it's blocked off, but that was just an invitation to see what was there. At the end the river flows througha floodgate and then disappears behind some fallen tree trunks, as you can see. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1znRj7x

Annual Review

Image
May 1, 2015. I spent the day in meetings and in preparing documentation for our LPSS program annual review, set for next Wednesday. This collage i fgrom our page on communications and was created from Google searches on NRC and LPSS. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1FHbDSu

A Cold and Drippy Day

Image
April 30, 2015. The winter that will never end continues. This is a quick run to Costco, the view is of the Trinity Power Centre parking lot. Yeah, that exciting. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1E2We9J

Little Buddy

Image
April 29, 2015. Alex hasn't left my side since I've gotten home (the fact that I feed him fish may have something to do with that). Here he is sleeping while I watch the ball game. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1E2Wdmc
