Dead Milkweed

Image
October 26, 2020. The cold has come, the rains have started, and they even had some snow in the city today. I was indoors all day presenting at and attending the ePIC 2020 conference on open recognition. I like doing presentations because they always push my thinking, but they can be a lot of work during a busy time. No complaints, though. https://flic.kr/p/2jZxzuB

Mer Bleue Bog Trail

Image
October 25, 2020. Andrea and I went for a 9 km hike along the Mer Bleue Bog Trail today. It was a crisp 7 degrees but sunny and nice. The trail out was great, but on the way back, well, it was a bog. Still, it was great exercise and good for some beautiful photos. https://flic.kr/p/2jZatqg

Emma on the Rug

Image
October 24, 2020. The expected rains did not materialize but it was still an indoor day for me as I prepared my Open Recognition Networks talk for Monday. This is Emma waiting patiently for food. Or string games. or something. https://flic.kr/p/2jZ1Qbk

St. Lawrence River

Image
October 23, 2020. I could not resist getting out for a ride on what is for sure the last nice day of the year. So it was about 90 km to the St.Lawrence River and back. I also had a nice lunch at Rockin Rhonda's in Avonmore (while taking part in an online meeting). It was beautiful out today; tomorrow, though, will be cold, rainy and a work day. https://flic.kr/p/2jYoQZt

Kitties

Image
October 22, 2020. This is why you don't want to split kitten siblings up. That's (from top down) Julia, Emma and Charlemagne. We bought another cat couch today, though we evidently don't need it. Today I spent working on a talk for next week on open recognition networks. Some good stuff there. Tomorrow looks like the last nice biking day of the year (which will make Saturday (rain and cold) a work day). https://flic.kr/p/2jY52a1

High Falls Conservation Area

Image
October 21, 2020. I took a walk after work down to the river to take a few photos of the High Falls Conservation Area. It's a really nice area and it's only a few minutes to walk. Today was another day focused on data literacy, but I need to begin preparing some talks - I have six (I think) coming in the next four or five weeks. https://flic.kr/p/2jXKiuU

Lexi in the Kitchen

Image
October 21, 2020. Even with the excitement of the kittens I make sure Lexi is well tended with regular tuna and attention. She is also the catalyst for string games, which the kittens love. Today was focused on data literacy, again. https://flic.kr/p/2jXEShq

Dogwood

Image
October 19, 2020. I saw this dogwood by the deck in the back just glistening in the rain and had to make it today's photo. This morning I did a seminar on personal learning and through the afternoon I did newsletter posts and reading for data literacy. https://flic.kr/p/2jXbgA7

Mer Bleue Squirrel

Image
October 18, 2020. We went for a walk in Mer Bleue today, about 8 km, on a cool cloudy day. It's late fall now, but there's still a lot of life in the forest. https://flic.kr/p/2jWQKrd

Corn

Image
October 17, 2020. I was able to get out for a 60 km bike ride today to Russell and back, and visited family along the way for an hour and a half or so (all is well with them I'm happy to say). This is dried corn intended (I believe) for cattle feed; yes, I walked into a corn field to take the shot (along rte 300 just north of Embrun). https://flic.kr/p/2jWuWEq

Cat Couch

Image
October 16, 2020. We picked up a cat couch at the store yesterday and they took to it instantly. At any given time now, there will be one cat or another in the cat couch. Today was another data literacy day - I'm making good progress, I've identified some key models and have a good handle on the background literature. https://flic.kr/p/2jW62t7

Parking Lot

Image
October 15, 2020. I know my life may appear glamorous in my social media photos, but sometimes it's ordinary, as in the case of noon today when we drove into town to get some groceries. Still deep into researching data literacy literature. https://flic.kr/p/2jW9zxV

Bread

Image
October 10, 2020. This is a loaf of Andrea's bread. I can't overstate how good it is to have home-baked bread in the house. Today was a quiet indoor day spent puttering around with Angular and other web frameworks and creating OLDaily posts. https://flic.kr/p/2jTk9Na

Soybeans and River

Image
October 9, 2020. This is a soybean field by the side of the nation river, seen during a short bike ride after work. Today was another day filled with work on data literacy; I'm getting a pretty good sense of the development of the concept over the last 15 years or so. https://flic.kr/p/2jRqKeB

Nation River

Image
October 8, 2020. It was too bright and too windy to frame this photo, so I just fired off a bunch of shots and hoped for the best. I took it on a short but cold bike ride after work. Today was a day of back-to-back-to-back Zoom meetings, plus a good dose of work on data literacy. https://flic.kr/p/2jR9R2r

The View from my Office

Image
October 7, 2020. I was just wrapping up a very productive day in my home office working on data literacy when I looked out the window and happened to see a brilliant (but very short-lived) rainbow. https://flic.kr/p/2jQGdAx

Wasp

Image
October 5, 2020. Andrea came in today to say the wasps were swarming on the goldenrod by the back deck. Definitely worth a photo! Had a couple of meetings today, documented my week-end work, and cleaned my desk of accumulated clutter from several months of work. https://flic.kr/p/2jPU7jA

Son of Bones

Image
October 4, 2020. This year I'm relatively early with the Hallowe'en decorations. This is the third year for Son of Bones. Another quiet day in today, messing around with more code (and could also be called a work day if pressed). https://flic.kr/p/2jPUSYw

4 Cube Cat

Image
October 3, 2020. The cats survived our short trip away just fine, as I knew they would. This is Charlemagne (notice his right eye was permanently damaged by his infection before his rescue). Quiet day in today messing around with code. If pressed I could call it a work day. :) https://flic.kr/p/2jPTWUD

Brebuf

Image
October 2, 2020. We drove home from our short Tremblant vacation today. This is the scene at the village of Brebuf, just a few kilometers in from the resort. It's hard not to have a visceral response to the beauty. https://flic.kr/p/2jNtb4c

Mont Tremblant

Image
October 1, 2020. I went for a bike ride this afternoon and the weather alternated between rain and sunshine. A little cool, but as you can see from the photo it was also quite beautiful. https://flic.kr/p/2jNe8L8

Ridgeline

Image
September 30, 2020. We took the gondola to the top of Mont Tremblant and went for a hike inside a cloud along the Summit Trail,a winding path along the ridgeline that has the appeal of (as Andrea said) being uphill in both directions. Maybe, but it was also beautiful, with the combination of bright leaves, fog, rain, and rugged montain scenery. https://flic.kr/p/2jN2uRK
