Honeysuckle Rain

Image
June 29, 2015. Spooted the find misty raindrops on the honeysuckle beside the house on the way to the office. I live these bushes - they are surviving, even thriving, in harsh growing conditions, they have nice flowers, and as we'll see, they'll soon have berries. Anything that feeds birds works for me. Mystery Rose

Image
June 28, 2015. We're not sure exactly where this rose came from, but as we were 'decluttering' - loading old magazines into the car, to be specific - we stopped to look at this tiny rose that volunteered its way into our front garden. As you can see placed against Andrea's fingers, it's tiny. But we like it anyways. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1g2607D

Wrong Way

Image
June 27, 2015. Wrote an article expressing my frustration with the declining standard of government around here. Forgot to charge the phone this morning, then found a flat on the bike, fixed that while the phone charged, then got another flat, so I simply dropped off the bike at Consolvos for a tune-up I was planning to get anyways. While walking home I took a photo of this sign, which I figured would be a good illustration for the article and a nice summary of the day so far. Naturally two of my three shots has a camera strap over the image. Oh, and the Blue Jays lost 4-0. Staying home with my cats for the rest of the day. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1LuWoyc

Edith Cavell

Image
June 26, 2015. Quiet Friday, letting me recharge a bit. I took this photo on the way in to work today - it's the side of Edith Cavell school, with a brand new mural. I like it. A lot. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1GOvcao

Empty Swimming Pool

Image
June 25, 2015. This is the swimming pool at St Patricks, where I go for spin class. I don't use the pool at all, and I don't like swimming at all (because I get all wet). But I've never seen the pool completely empty like this, so I thought I'd take a photo. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1SQbMaH

Lupins

Image
June 24, 2015. Work day, nose to the grindstone, catching up on paperwork and making slides. These are lupins, they grow like weeds here, especially on sunny slops by highways. I like then. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1dlhUHO

Dental Implements

Image
June 23, 2015. Started my day at the dentist - just a cleaning, but any day someone scrapes your teeth with a metal implement is not a good one. Still, I had a reasonably productive afternoon. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1QOQzQU

Rain

Image
June 22, 2015. Steady rain all day, but I was indoors in meetings all day, so it's a wash. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1QOQzQQ

Round of 16

Image
June 21, 2015. Cool and rainy. Australia defeated Brazil 1-0 in a taut opportunity-filled game. Good crowd. That's the end of FIFAWC 2015 for Moncton. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1IsQgl4

Gladeside

Image
June 20, 2015. Cycled north of the city to St-Paul-de-Kent along highway 515 and then back down 490 (aka McLaughlin Road). This is just south of the closed bridge in a place called Gladeside. Becautiful day for a ride today; I also got some other really nice photos. 87 km ride, avg. 19.0 km/hour. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Lm9nTU

Dame's Rocket

Image
June 19, 2015. Took a short walk on a quiet day to look for stuff to photograph in Mapleton Park. These Dame's Rockets (Hesperis matronalis) were the only splash of colour in the otherwise lush green forest. Good day today, beginning to feel in the groove again. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1BBNbSG

Centaurea montana

Image
June 18, 2015. Purple Centaurea Montana Flower - aka Cornflower or Mountain Bluet. Whatever you call them, they are spiky, they are purple, they are attractive, and they are in my front garden. Another day with meetings, but the weather was nice and I'm in a sunnier mood. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1GTjwol

Diaz

Image
June 17, 2015. Brazil may have won the game but Costa Rica goalkeeper Dinnia Diaz was the star of the game, turning back the South Americans again and again. No, this was not a goal; it would finally come in the 85th minute or so. Today: a bit of a breather. Tomorrow: back into the fray. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1GgPuWM

Rose

Image
June 16, 2015. Today started too early for my tastes, and seemed to continue for a long time. Finally home around six to see the Hansa flourishing on the bush in the front yard. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1TrAM9n

Côte d'Ivoire Goal

Image
June 15, 2015. Ange finishes her follow-through as she scores Côte d'Ivoire's historic first goal at the world cup in its game against Norway. The ball just squeezed past the keeper's outstretched arm to land in the net. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1eiGj25

Rabbit Trail

Image
June 14, 2015. The Buctouche River just north of Légerville in a little park containing Rabbit Trail. I had lunch there on what turned out to be a 92 kilometer bike ride (it would have been shorter but a bridge was washed out causing an hour-long detour). I then wiped out trying to ride on Rabbit Trail. Beautiful day for a bike ride. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1GFkIvq

Arias

Image
June 13, 2015. It was Colombia 2, France 0 in a Woman's Wold Cup shocker today. In the second game, England prevailed over Mexico. Bright sun, puffy clouds, a great day in a jam-packed sold-out stadium. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1GlE7A1

Airport Lounge

Image
June 12, 2015. A long but really good meeting that started with breakfast and ended late afternoon. This was one of those good meetings, where we trade ideas, map out plans on the whiteboard, and dream big. Flight home in the rain, listening to the ball game in the airport lounge, but sadly I missed the best part while I was in the airplane. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1f7WsaV

Lake Ontario

Image
June 11, 2015. So this was a first for me: attending a meeting online while on a train. OK, the bandwidth wasn't enough for the video to work, but I was able to stay on audio for most of it. Well, OK, I could have done that using a phone. This is the lake as seen from the train (through a dirty window) taken while in the meeting. I got into Ottawa just in time for a long but very productive meeting, had some chicken and shrimp stir fry, and called it an early night. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1FQCurN

Double Play

Image
June 10, 2015. For the first time in my life, I went to a weekday afternoon ball game. Normally this would be a "businessman's special" or sopmething like that, but today it was schools day and the stadium was packed with kids on bus tours. And anyways, I wasn't really skipping out from work, as I had a morning meeting and an evening meeting. Good day all around and it occurred to me just how theraputic it is to go to the ballpark for a couple of games in the middle of a stressful week. Yeah, I'm good now. Edwin

Image
June 9, 2015. Started the day with a meeting to map out some project deliverables, then a flight to Toronto, getting in just on time to watch the jays game. This is Edwin in mid-game; he would later crush a walk-off homer. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1cRkzsy

Civic

Image
June 8, 2015. On this week's theme for the Moncton Photogrphy group. It's hard to do anything unique with a motor vehicle, but I tried. The day started out well but became one of those stressful days where you're doing your best but can't seem to make headway. I need to remember the old saying that has been running through my head recently: "the dude abides." Why this? I have no idea. But it's really good advice. Breathe.... Victoria Road

Image
June 7, 015. If you saw a cyclist oumping his fist in Irishtown yesterday, that was me celebrating the Blue Jays come from behind win against Houston. As usual, I listed to the entire game on my Sunday afternoon cycle, including the Astros four-run inning while having a snack at this bridge along Victoria Road. First time I've cycled through New Scotland, second time through this bridge. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1cG9V7T

Boundary Creek School

Image
June 6, 2015. Cycled the Salisbury loop again today; rough wind on the way back. I should have spent more time on this photo, but didn't, and now have a photo-of-the-day with blur (this was the best of a bad lot). From Flickr http://ift.tt/1T3VvzX

Treat Ball

Image
June 5, 2015. Bart in the kitchen contemplating the treat ball. The idea is to roll the ball to extract treats. Bart is an accomplished treat ball player; he's learned to bounce it off walls, shake it back and forth, and most of all, convince me to give the ball a shake. Polly also uses the treat ball, Lexi finally learned after 7 years, and Alex knows how but won't. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1QzFaih

Peaceful Forest

Image
June 4, 2015. A peaceful forest scene for what has been historically a turbulent day. Also my late father's birthday. I spent a quiet day, one very productive meeting, and some more work on my vision document. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1KIWrnA

Nice Day If You're a Duck

Image
June 3, 2015. There were two or three ducks on a glass-smooth pond earlier, but the rain had returned and the ducks were gone when I came back. This is the pond just outside the office. Quiet day today, got a good amount done on my 'LPSS Vision' slides, but went home with 'flu-like symptoms' in the afternoon. Early night tonight. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1dMK0Nw

Tributary

Image
June 2, 2015. Another stormy day, rainclouds and conflict. I took a brief moment out of the office to look at the forest just up the road - this tributary runs between Halls Creek and the McLaughlin Reservoir 5 km to the north. This is the view looking north from Crowley Farm Road. If you look closely you can see the beaver swimming in the water. All this land and forest will be wiped out for what they're calling Hall's Creek Villages . Clearcutting to facilitate development in the area (what they call Village 1) has already contributed to flooding, and I'm sure nobody has costed the new bridge that will be required on Crowley Farm Road. It's a beautiful forest, and both the beaver and I will be sad to see it go. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1cxo8nM

Ent

Image
June 1, 2015. I've been meaning to capture this guy for a while; he's a former tree along St. George at High Street. I snapped a quick photo while driving Andrea back from the dentist. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1LYki2S
