7:02 to Montreal

March 28, 2017. The office computer died today - looks like a memory error, in which case it's easily fixed by swapping memory cards. But it's Shared Services Canada that has to do that, so it could be any time between now and December. Fortunately I still have the laptop, though it happened to be at home today. Pictured here is the 7:02 train as it passes our house - you have to look for it through the trees. I would imagine some people would find being this close to the train annoying, but I love our trains and would miss them. Train whistles make me feel at home - you never hear them in the city,

March 27, 2017. Quiet day in the office today, one short meeting and some useful coding time. Blue jays game in the evening, but we won't talk about that. I've been watching The Wire over the last week, and it turns out to be quite good. But I guess pretty much everyone knew that.

Playing With Lexi

March 26, 2017. I spent a nice Sunday working on my Contact North paper, listening to the ball game, and at suppor time played with Lexi (who has now decided she needs to play with the shoelace every day).

Driftwood

March 24, 2017. We went to the Home and Garden show at the EY Centre today, picked up a good supply of Thai Chili sauce, and looked at backyard gardens, including one with a driftwood wall - this one.

View from the Highway

March 24, 2017. I was up in gatineau today doing one last presentation for our CSPS project. It went well and I got back home before dark - an accomplishment given how bad driving conditions were. This is the view of Casselman from the highway (the of,f-ramp, actually) on the way home.

No Longer Needed

No Longer Needed
March 23, 2017. I wonder how long this filing cabinet sat in some office with its message of inspiration telling its owner each day to live life to its fullest. I wonder what the story is that leaves it in the basement of the CISTI building, surplus, no longer needed, ironically just around the corner from the fitness facility.

Skeptical

March 22, 2017. I'm trying to convince Alex that the new fish will be just as good as the old, but he's just not buying it. Nice quiet day, Jays win, and I got some coding done and some bills aid.

Pine Cones

March 21, 2017. It's still winter so I thought I'd photograph some pine cones. Quiet day - worked on a report, one meeting, and on AWS stuff. And listened to the ball game this afternoon.

The Office

March 20, 2017. Another photo of the office building where I work, known more formally as building M-50. I'm on the third floor, right in the middle. I spent the day in that office yesterday working on AWS, Vagrant and Docker stuff.

Railway Bridge

March 19, 217. Another bright clear and cold day. Winter will be over soon, but not yet. This is the railway bridge over the Nation RFiver, seen from the town side in Casselman.

Through the Front Door

March 18, 2017. This is looking through the wondow above the front door toward the setting sun. Definitely a day off today; watched a ball game online, puttered with some code, watched some videos.

Clear Blue Sky

March 17, 2017. We had a brilliant blue sky today, a frosty cold day full of light. Accomplishments: - finished evaluating a funding proposal en fran├žais.

Arrival

March 14, 2017. At the airport, on the way to Moncton, to close the sale of the house. Finally!

In the Sink

March 16, 2017. Lexi in the sink, one of her fvourite places. Jet lagged today. I know it's only a one-hour difference, but it was high-stress, and there was a time change to boot.

Events Centre

March 15, 2017. This is Moncton's new events centre, still under construction. It was the big news the last few years in the city. Now the house is sold nd we're gone and we don't get to enjoy it. No regrets.

Notary

March 13, 2017. We visited the notary not once but twice today, both times going through this building lobby that did not instill a feeling of confidence.

Day of Rest

March 13, 2017. Spent the day watching the Blue Jays lose (it's only spring training, right?) and puttering with responsive website design.

Thousand Islands Bridge

March 11, 2017. On the way back home. Cold, windy, and the Blue Jays were getting thumped.

The Hockey Game

March 10, 2017. The Syracuse Crunch played host to the Springfield Thunderbirds and came out (quite deservedly) at the short end of a 3-2 score. Good game.

Purring

March 9, 217. Conference host Alexandra Pickett is holding this purring and meowing cat-robot, everyone's favourite prop from the talk by Robbie Melton. Accomplishments: - posted Audio and slides for Open Learning, Open Networks

Syracuse

March 8, 2017. Syracuse downtown. This is the first day of the conference, and this picture reminded me of the concept of 'open' in its truest sense - musical instruments waiting to be played by anyone, any time.

Sackett's Harbour

March 7, 2017. Drove from Casselman to Syracuse, stopping part way to enjoy this view at the War of 1812 historical site of Sackett's Harbour. It seemed to me to be a really nice place and I wish I could have lingered, but it was also cold and windy.

Heavy Equipment Operator Training

March 6, 2017. A day off today as I prepared to travel. Went in to Costco to stock up, and spent some time watching the heavy equipment operator training.

Warped Light

Matrch 5, 2017. This is the light in my office. It was an all-day-in kind of day, working on gRSShopper.

The Torrent

February 4, 2017. This is the view outside the conference venue in Richcraft Hall at Carleton University where I attended the #Visions2042 event. I missed Friday but Saturday was well worth the time, and I got to feel like an academic for the day.

Sunday, March 5, 2017

Playing with the Cat

March 3, 2017. Good day today, meeting in the morning, errands in the fternoon. In the evening I was pretty tired but still found time to play with Lexi.

Friday, March 3, 2017

Kirkland Deli

March 2, 2017. Quick stop at Costco on the way home. Set up security on AWS today today.

Fog

March 1, 2017. Late afternoon fog on a warm day as the school bus drives by in front of the hose. Spent the day working on AWS configuration, again. Each day I get a little bit better.

Hood

February 28, 2017. This is the hood in our kitchen, taken at the very end of the day. Worked mostly on reducing backed up email and downloading my course videos - bandwidth in the office is getting very poor, to the poiint of being almost unusable.

Sunset Tree

February 27, 2017. Busy day today, got a lot done. Then stopped at Costco on the way home, where I took this tree. Accomplishments: - Draft Business Plan
