Bell

Image
May 31, 2017. This is a bell I bought last year at a temple in Chiang Mai. It hangs in my kitchen and often rings when I brush by it. Good dday today; the Blue Jays won this afternoon and I got the last of the major form fields completed. Now back to the main project - setting up alternative db structures for various gRSShopper services. Whee hoo! (Been looking forward to this weekend all day too).

Anderson Road

Image
May 30, 2017. Another view of Anderson Road where it meets Innes, my usual detour when there's a panic on th 417, which there was today. Got my file upload system working perfectly (yay!) in a pretty productive day.

Creeping Flox

Image
May 29, 2017. Did some funding evaluation this morning, then worked on the file upload function through the afternoon. In the evening, booked tix for the Blue Jays vss New York this weekend. :)

St. Joseph Street Creek

Image
May 27, 2017. Nice 50 km ride today and spotted this great scene just south of Embrun on St. Joseph Street. Good ride today, felt good the whole way (no wind and nice temperatures help).

Geese

Image
May 26, 2017. These geese were feasting on the NRC lawn as I left the office. People say geese are a nuisance, but these geese were eating dandelion seeds, whch sounds like a public service to me.

Lexi

Image
May 25, 2017. More practice taking cat portraits.

Alex

Image
May 24, 2017. Practicing my portraiture on Alex. Spent the day coding; but by bit it advances. Getting pretty good at Ajax/JQuery.

Polly

Image
May 23, 2017. Polly is like a ghost these days but I caught her in the living room before she could scoot to her hiding place. Accomplishments: - new driver's license - new health care card - new Costco card

Lilacs

Image
May 22, 2017. We had to get a new lawn mower today because the old one has died and you can't live out here with a bad lawn. We'd be pariahs! That was about all I did this holiday Monday. Lilacs are at the side of our driveway.

Apple Blossoms

Image
May 21, 2017. Day of rest. Watched the ball game, played with a bit of coding, took this photo of gthe crabapple tree in bossom.

Ottawa Tulip Festival

Image
May 20, 2017. Back home, and spent the afternoon at the Ottawa Tulip Festival at Lansdowne Park.

Jardin del Arte

Image
May 19, 2017. One last look at Mexico City before I depart. This is an early morning look at Jardin del Arte from my hotel room window, the view I had all w eek.

My Twitter Advertsers

My list isn't as long as Audrey Watters's , weighing in at only 23 pages (to her 33). Note that all of these companies are wasting their money, as I block all Twitter advertisements. Twitter says: " Tailored audiences are often built from email lists or browsing behaviors. They help advertisers reach prospective customers or people who have already expressed interest in their business.   Learn more You are currently part of 2689 audiences from 1338 advertisers. You can opt out of interest-based advertising in your  personalization and data settings . This will change the ads you see on Twitter, however it won't remove you from advertisers' audiences." Twitter is on the bubble. I don't expect I'll be using the service by the end of the year. @1199seiu @360financeau @360safecenter @47brand @4sightmedia @76 @7eleven @8cyrus8 @_percival @_zeroseven @a_i @aaa_arizona @abematv @abercrombie @abetteror @acacia_pr @academy @accatrackertm @achievers @a

Mexico City

Image
May 17, 2017. A day off today, but I ended up having to hustle ths afternoon to cancel credit cards and such after involuntarily donating my wallet to a needy person in Mexico City's old city.

Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico

Image
May 16, 2017. Centerpiece monument from UNAM, where I gave my talk today. After my talk: lunch, then sleep.

Mexico City

Image
May 15, 2017. Walked about 10 km taking photos, went nowhere in particulr, which is always the best place.

Watching You

Image
May 14, 2017. Flew to Mexico today. This is a view from the lounge at the airport in Montreal.

Robin

Image
May 13, 2017. Spent the day working (it ws cold and rainy anyway) and only had time to take this picture of a robin. Accomplishments: - final draft of 'Open Learning, Open Networks' submitted.

Des Pins

Image
May 12, 2017. This is the LaRose Forest at the end of Rue Des Pins near Limoges. The road is being extended, nibbling at the edge of the forest. It needs to be protected from this sort of encroachment, or it will disappear. P.S. mosquitos out in full force.

Lights

Image
May 11, 2017. Yeah, yeah, I'll take them down. Next weekend. After all 15 months is long enough.

Tulips

Image
May 10, 2017. This is on the front lawn. They didn't grow last year, but surprised us by making an appearance this year. Another coding day, frustrated by a drop-down select list that wouldn't work. It works now, though.

Paint Shop

Image
May 9, 2017. A few days ago I bought a couple of Muskoka chairs from Costco. Today I went to the paint store for some stain for them; this is a scene from inside the store. Accomplishments: - slides and presentation for an internal committee describing the CSPS project

Crabapple Leaves

Image
May 8, 2017. Spent the day coding - converting my content editor to ajax so I can dynamically edit table structures. So I can maage different types of data. Which will help me build my MOOC aggregator. Made good progress. Cold and rainy (though not so much in our Casselman microclimate).

Over the Trestle

Image
May 7, 2017. This is the 4702 rumbling over the trestle pulling large load of freight. Another cold wet day, so I worked today, doing more coding.

My Posts are Authored by a Cat

Image
May 6, 2017. They can't be authored by me, because as you can see this cat is always in front of the keyboard. Today was a work day, since it was too cold and rainy to do anything else. More coding.

Rain

Image
May 5, 2017. The story around these parts today is rain (and flooding). We're far away from the water at home, even though we can (sort of) see the river outside the kitchen window. Spent the day coding (yay!) to whip gRSShopper into shape for wide varieties of data types.

Hyacinth

Image
May 4, 2017. Andrea planted this pink flower in 2015 but it didn't come up until this year (the same is true of our other bulbs - go figure). Good day today, got stuff done. Acomplishments: - final version of CTE (annual evaluation) submitted - draft of article for DE in China completed

Periwinkle

Image
May 3, 2017. We have a bountiful crop of periwinkle in the backyard garden next to the house Andrea doesn't like them and says they're invasive, but they look nice to me. Accomplishments: - first draft of Contact North paper.

Polly

Image
May 2, 2017. This is Polly, who in her old age has decided that she is afraid of me. Not so afraid I can't take a photo, but she doesn't like my habit of playing string with Lexi. She's 14 now, and it's all too much for her. Got half a paper revised this morning, but with no internet in the office worked from home in the afternoon, so people could have a newsletter.

Bobblehead

Image
May 1, 2017. I took care of the last of the Moncton bills today, which complete and finally closes the chapter on that city. Otherwise, a quite day. This is the bobblehead (Steve Yzerman) and flag in my office window.
