Wainscoting

Image
May 30, 2016. This photo doesn't really do it justice, but this is the remodeled front entranceway to the Moncton house. I repainted it all and added the wainscoting to give it a nice 1920s feel. It was an all-day job but I think the results were worth it. Hardwood under the dropcloth. :) Accomplishments: - see photo. :) From Flickr http://ift.tt/1TUjn9a

Kent

Image
May 29, 2016. Another cold and grey Maritime day, another day of painting and renovations, and a visit to Kent for more supplies. Pretty much done the wall painting, started on trim. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1RFfWic

Balancing Act

Image
May 27, 2016. Lexi spends far too much time on that railing as it is - as you can see, there's a 12 foot drop on the other side. And now she is becoming far too relaxed up there. Normally I'd say "she's a cat, she won't fall," but it's Lexi, a cat with far more confidence than balance. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1RFgtk8

Old and NewM

Image
May 26, 2016. Shot of the woods beside the gas station at Saint-Lazare on the way to Casselman from Montreal airport. Flew in (on points) from Moncton in the afternoon to visit the dentist in the evening. Getting a new crown. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1RFfuAt

Storm

Image
May 25, 2016. Took the day off, a little overwhelmed. Just let the day go by and watched things happen - good things, bad things, happy things, sad things. A lot of ups and downs for a day in which I did nothing. From Flickr http://ift.tt/27UzbA6

Blossoms

may 22, 2016. Back to painting. These apple (?) blossoms are actually on the neighbour's yard, but they are what I see outside the dining room window. As I paint. From Flickr http://ift.tt/20HHjyt

Homestead Road

Image
May 22, 2016. Beautiful day for a bike ride, so I did the Salisbury loop up Homestead Road. This is the view from the top of the hill. It was pretty painful, even though it was only 55 km. Maybe too early in the season? Or maybe because I wasn't dressed properly? From Flickr http://ift.tt/20HHTMG

Ladder

Image
May 20, 2016. Painting the living room roday. Fell off the chair and landed on the walker, giving me a monumental bruise. This is the scene from the parking lot at the Kents where I decided to buy a ladder to replace the chair I had been using. Back to painting the living room. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1XAo0aU

Daffodils

May 19, 2016. Back in Moncton. Painting again. A lot of the front garden was disrupted by the renovations but these daffodils have survived. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1XAnuKc

On the Highway

Image
May 18, 2016. Busy day today. Started with a presentation to the Canada School of Public Service Moodle Connect conference, in Gatineau. It's also my mother's 80th birthday so Andrea and I bought her a nice bouquet of flowers and drove up the road to Embrun to surprise her. Well of course they weren't home - I hope they get back in time to find the flowers before they wilt (at the very least she gets a card and a nice vase out of it). Note that I don't celebrate birthdays at all, so this is something special. Then it was on to the highway back to Montreal to catch a flight back to Moncton (*so* much nicer being able to just zip to Montreal for a flight - Casselman was a well-chosen new home). This is the view across the highway from Herb's Travel Plaza on Tannery Road, at the Vankleek Hill exit. Accomplishments: - presentaation slides created and audio recording made - gift for my mother From Flickr http://ift.tt/1W4D9lJ

Cleaning

Image
May 17, 2016. Back in Casselman for a brief visit, including an appointment at the dentist for a cleaning. I thought it was an appointment for a crown. Nope, that's next week. Accomplishments: - teeth cleaned From Flickr http://ift.tt/1W4De9c

Boul des Anciens-Combattants

Image
May 16, 2016. Another day of painting (only half done a room so no 'accomplishment') and then a flight to Montreal to return home to Casselman, just temporarily. This is the Boulevard des Anciens-Combattants on the far west side of Montreal Island, linking Highway 20 (which goes to Toronto) and Highway 40 (which goes to Ottawa). Part of the route from the airport. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1rRv877

Back Yard

Cattails

Image
May 14, 2016. Day of rest in Moncton. Went to see Captain America: Civil War. Meh. These are cattails from last year lining the highway outsie the movie theatre. Nice weather. Cold. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1rRv87h

Notre-Dame-du-Portage

Image
May 13, 2016. Took a 45 km bike ride down the coast from Riviere du Lopu, though Notre-Dame-du-Portage and to Le Kamouraska. After the ride, drove to Moncton (seeing a moose and a lynx en route). From Flickr http://ift.tt/1rRvaM9

Saint-Jean-Port-Joli

Image
May 12, 2016. Back on the highway headed for Moncton to finish the last of the work on the house. I stopped for a bit at Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, about 100km downstream from Quebec City, to take this evening shot overlooking the Saint Lawrence River. Accomplishments: - mowed the lawn From Flickr http://ift.tt/1TJ2wmF

Market

May 11, 2016. Had a lunch-hour meeting at Play, a café at Sussex and York, and so had a nice walk through the By Ward market. From Flickr http://ift.tt/23LPbzL

High Falls

Image
May 10, 2016. Today was simply a gorgeous Ontario sprint day - brilliantly sunny and warm (albeit 20 degrees cooler than Malacca was). I spent the day in the office coming to grips with my new role. Coming home this afternoon I took some time to smell the roses walking through the conservation area at High Falls here in Casselman. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1rSS99u

May Buds and Cedar

Image
May 9, 2016. Back in the office today after a month away - one plant lived, but the begonia appears to have died. Pretty quiet day; making plans for the future. From Flickr http://ift.tt/24IkRM9

Grand Opening

Image
May 8, 2016. I'm facing ferocious jet-lag today, but we managed to get into the city for some necessary shopping. We discovered that the new Shoppers on Ogilvie Road has opened. To this point we've been filling prescriptions at a very run-down store with a moon landscape for a parking lot. There's still a lot to do on the parking lt, but the store is fresh and new and a lot more is planned for the site (maybe even a Costco?). From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Whw6Gd

Lexi at the Sink

May 7, 2016. Back home giving water to cats (pictured) and getting through jet lag. Accomplishments: - finished and uploaded Kuala Lumpur photo set - also, the malacca photo set From Flickr http://ift.tt/1XePqmR

Hong Kong

Image
May 6, 2016. This was an extra-long day starting in the Malaysian time zone and ending in the Eastern time zone, resulting in a 36 hour length (23.5 of which were spent on airplanes and the rest traveling to or from airports or waiting at airports). It included a cramped Malaysian Airlines flight that landed hard enough to spill the contents of the toilets into the aisle, and an Air Canada flight that made an unscheduled 3-hour stop in Tokyo due to a strong smell of electrical-fire type smoke in the cabin. But there were bright sides - the crew of the Air Canada flight, for example, which responded calmly and professionally, and then worked overtime to get us back to Toronto, and two excellent seatmates who made 18.5 hours in an airplane much less trying than it had to be. Finished at home, after midnight, but all things considered this day could have ended in many other ways. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1O6Qnvy

Malacca

Image
May 5, 2016. Woke up early, took the metro to TBS, then the bus to the sourthern city of Malacca. It was a day full of adventure. Note to future visitors: don't be a hero, take the taxi from the bus station. It's a 5 km walk to the city centre (I discovered this the hard way). This is the inside of Cheng Hoong Teng Temple . Built in 1645 it is the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia, just off Jonker Walk, devoted to Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism equally. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1XaomFk

This is Malaysia

Image
May 4, 2016. This scene, taken from Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur, seems to me to be the prototypical KL tourist shot. I spent most of my day indoors but did manage a 7km walk in the 34 degree 80 percent humidity heat, from the hotel to the Bird Park. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1UzTq0M

May 3, 2016. I found this great mural along a back road in the Chinatown area of Kuala Lumpur during a short walk after our second day of meetings. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Y6JQRS

Batu Caves

Image
May 1, 2016. This is my first time in Malaysia in many years, so I wanted to revisit the Batu Caves, which I did with Dave Cormier. It being a May day Sunday, the caves were very busy. On the bright side, the 'dark Cave' was open ( it had been closed the last time. Back to the hotel by 4:30 and a good 14 hours sleep. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1WBe6oZ

Hong Kong

Image
April 30, 2016. Fifteen and a half hours after take-off we landed in Hing Kong. I had about an hour and a half in the airport, then boarded a very full 4 hour flight to Malaysia. Had to wait for lost luggage in KLIA. So it was another 3 hours to the hotel. But I ha From Flickr http://ift.tt/1WBe68F

Morning Flight

Image
April 29, 2016. I was up at 4:00 AM to catch a flight to Toronto, then on the 10:00 a.m. to Hng Kong. That's how I spent the entire (shortened) day. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1SEDeKq
