Tim Hortons

Image
April 27, 2014. The winter that will never end. A cold, raining and almost snowy Sunday meant I was cooped up inside, venturing out only to get a coffee from the local Tims. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nrh4UL

Stilesville

Image
April 29, 2014. Another cold and dreary day. I drove back up Gorge Road because I like being out in the country. This house is at a bend in the road known as Stilesville. There's also a church, and that's it. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/ntjULD

Cold, Rainy, Misty

Image
April 28, 2014. The winter that would never end still hasn't ended as we had near-freezing temperatures and a cold misty rain. Yes, that's still snow on the ground. This is north of Moncton: Gorge Road just off Indian Mountain Road - rolling hills and optical illusions. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nq5rB6

Tour de France

Image
April 26, 2014. The new spin cycle, replacing the trusty old recumbent bike. It's a Pro-Form Tour-de-France - the bike is very nice, but the software support by iFIT.com is terrible. But I got it through Aeroplan points, so I can't complain. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/npU8ov

Like They Own the Place

Image
April 25, 2014. I spent a few minutes on Parliament Hill in Ottawa watching people playing on the front lawn like the owned the place. As they should. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/njUgx9

Superbus

Image
April 24, 2014. Photo of an Ottawa city bus taken through the window of my taxi on the way back from my financial training session. Some time on the spin cycle in the hotel, watch the Jays lose, and that was my day. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/njcjXC

Maple Leaf

Image
April 23, 2014. I'm in Ottawa for financial training. I shot this downtown on Lyon Street while searching for a grocery store to buy frozen fish and vegitables (not easy; I had to settle for canned salmon). from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/njwCgn

Servicing

Image
April 22, 2014. This is a Porter Dash-11 as seen through the green glass at Moncton airport. I still flew Air Canada on my way to Ottawa. What a way to celebrate Earth Day. Still, the implementation plan has been submitted. I can breathe again. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nmjR8Z

Cat and Buddha

Image
April 21, 2014. Scene from the front hall on top of the booklshelf. That's Bart, at right, beside a bucket of leaves and a bamboo Buddha. The photo is one I tool about 8 years ago of Victoria Park. Spend the whole day on the computer working on the LPSS program implementation plan. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nh4F67

Crocus

Image
April 20, 2014. Another new appearance in the garden, this solitary purple crocus. I had the worst time getting it to focus in my camera, even on the macro setting. Quiet day, all indoors, reading email and watching baseball. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nfz5ZJ

The Radio Tower

Image
April 19, 2014. This was my target for a relatively modest 25km bike ride in cold blistery weather. It's out along Berry Mills Road just in from the highway. Pictured is Zack Road. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nfA3Kz

Snowdrops

Image
April 18, 2014. The first flowers on our front lawn are these snowdrops. Yay! from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nbMVQ8

After the Flood

Image
April 17, 2014. This is the pond just outside my office the day after the flood. It got cold last night and the surface froze, and then as the water receded we get what you see here - a thin layer of ice draped over everything like a crispy blanket. I watched and listened to them collapse as the sun came out (it's all mlted now). from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nag8zj

Flooding

Image
April 16, 2014. So this is what I faced on my way to the office today; as you can see the road is completely flooded and barricaded. There's flooding all over the city, the worst in Moncton since we moved here in 2001. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/nba75H

Spring Forest

Image
April 15, 2013. The last bits of snow in this forest picture had melted by this afternoon as spring finally, at long last, begins its return to Moncton (we'll ignore the ice pellets forecast for tomorrow). from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/n9FPpD

Not a Fan

Image
April 14, 2014. When it's late and you need a daily photo and you have a cat and a souvineer from a Phillies game, putting the hat on the cat is a natural. As you can see from his expression, Alex is not impressed, from which I deduce that he is not a Phillies fan. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/n8BaKq

First Sign of Spring

Image
April 13, 2014. O'm told some people saw some very confused robons wondering what to do in all the snow. But here the first sign of spring is a tulip peeking out by the side of the house. Hard to believe it's mid-April. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/n58WMx

The Tracks

Image
April 12, 2014. Back home again, ion the cab on the way from the airport, in daylight no less! These are the railway tracks where they cross Wheeler. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/n57AUQ

Hey Miller Lite

Image
April 11, 2014. This vendor's call was "Hey Miller Lite." Every few minutes. That was all he said. Each of the vendors at the Phillies game had their own distinctive call. It was all part of the rich tapestry which is a Major League Baseball game. I could go every night. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/n351fp

MOOCs4D

Image
April 10, 2014. At the International Centre at UPenn all day for the MOOCs for Development conference. This is some of the artwork in the 'Asia Room' of the Center. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mZsN9y

Philadelphia

Image
April 9, 2014. Travel day today, morning flight to Philadelphia, followed by a trip to the ballpark to see the Phillies play the Brewers (the home team lost 9-4 in a sloppy sloppy game). from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mZqS2D

Rain

Image
April 8, 2014. Today was a day of grey skies and rain, as seen from Wheeler Bvld. just at the turnoff to my office. Today was a catch-up day as I cleaned out my email and had a couple of meetings. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mVHovq

Ugly

Image
April 7, 2014. Back in Moncton, in the office for some meetings, then a quick run to Costco. This sign - the ugliest in the city, and possibly anywhere, is across the road from Costco. I have no idea what they were thinking. By contrast - I'm enjoying the clear blue sky and warm weather (which will melt that ugly road-snow in the foreground). from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mSQScS

Landing in Toronto

Image
April 6, 2014. I celebrated Freedom 55 day by flying from Istanbul to Moncton by way of Frankfurt and Toronto. This is a photo of a jet landing in Toronto, from another jet landing in Toronto. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mSNMxX

The Grand Bazaar

Image
April 5, 2014. I walked 14.5 kilometers all through Istanbul today, including a visit to the Grand Bazaar. It turns out that all of Istanbul comes out for Saturday afternoon shopping, which resulted in very crowded and very colourful streets. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mN6p9n

On the Bosphorus

Image
April 4, 2014. The conference dinner was held on a boat that sailed up and down the Bosphorus. Here I am enjoying the voyage. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mLsFj8

Conquest of Budin

Image
April 3, 2014. I gave a presentation at the IEEE EduCon conference here at the military museum in Istanbul. As you can imagine, it is full of artifacts and paintings, especially this one by Hasan Riza called Conquest of Budin. The painting references the conquest of the city in 1541 by Suleiman the Magnificant - the city of Buda which would later be Budapest, the capital of Hungary. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mKWQYt

Hagia Sofia

Image
April 2, 2014. The Hagia Sofia is about 10 kilometers from my hotel - I know because I walked the distance. It was well worth the trip. This 1500 year old building iis magnificent - one can only imagine what it was like in it's prime, one of the wonders of the Medieval world. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mKkPAQ

Istanbul

Image
April 1, 2014. Arrived on a Lufthansa flight this afteernoon in Istanbul - just barely got out of Moncton, which was in an ice storm (power was actually out at the airport), and just ahead of a Lufthansa pilots' strike. In Turkey, a Twitter ban and unrest over recent elections. For me, nothing but sleep. This is a quick snapshot outside through the window of the car on the ride to the hotel. from Flickr http://flic.kr/p/mHiEwz
